The police speed limit enforcement exercise will run from August 18 – 24 and will primarily involve automatic surveillance systems as well as fixed and movable speed monitoring cameras.
“The majority of speeding cases occurs mainly during the summer months because driving conditions are good at that time. Police are worried that extreme speeding has increased significantly since the beginning of the year,” said Chief Inspector Risto Lammi of the National Police Board.
According to Lammi speeding is a factor in one third of road accident fatalities. Police also warn that motorists should exercise extreme caution with the resumption of school.
