The weekend has been clear and sunny, with high of 16—17 degrees Celsius in southern as well as northern locations and more than 18 degrees today Sunday.

“That was in Kittilä, north of the Arctic Circle, but it isn’t quite official yet,” Yle meteorologist Joonas Koskela says.

The beginning of next week will bring in clouds, but Wednesday and Thursday are set to be clearer and noticeably warm. South and Central Finland may even see the mercury rising to 20 degrees Celsius. In the north, rains and chills are on the way.

Cold nights

Nighttime temperatures are beginning to show their autumn colours, with -2.7 degrees measured in Ylivieska. Frost was observed as far south as Central Finland, and several cities saw sub-zero temperatures, though August is still on its way out.

Air temperatures are always measured from a height of two metres.
