On National Road 3 between Helsinki and Tampere in the stretch between Hämeenlinna and Riihimäki, several accidents have occurred within the space of a few hours, including a 5-car pile-up that left 3 people injured near Janakkala

in the afternoon shortly after 2 pm.

According to Fire and Rescue Services, there have been at least 6 accidents on Wednesday afternoon, 4 of which happened within the space of a few hours.

Fire Chief Juhani Sudenmäki says driving conditions on many sections of the road are quite challenging owing to poor visibility caused by gusts of snow. So much snow has fallen that only one lane of National Road 3 is currently in use.

“If you need to clean your windshield, it’s better to stop at a gas station to take care of it,” advises Sudenmäki. “Stopping on the motorway in these weather conditions is very dangerous.”
