Christmas Day's coldest temperature in Finland was measured in Sodankylä, Lapland, where the cold snap clocked in at -30.9 degrees Celsius, according to Yle meteorologist Toni Hellinen.

In Finland’s southern and central regions Thursday was the second coldest day this winter with temperatures of -10 to -15 degrees Celsius in the Uusimaa region, and -20 in the central region.

Hellinen says that Friday, Boxing Day, will warm up by a few degrees. In the south, there may be snow flurries and strong winds.

”On the coast, temperatures will be between -1 to -5 degrees Celsius and inland they'll be about -10. In Lapland, temperatures will be about -20 degrees Celsius,” says Hellinen.

After Friday, temperatures will drop again with Sunday set to be the week’s coldest day.
