A spate of new records were set over the weekend in the north, with a temperature of -33.6C at Sodankylä on Saturday and -34.5C on Sunday at Kittilä.

That record was broken in the early hours of Monday at Väylä in Inari where the Finnish Meteorological Institute's measuring station reported a reading of -35C.
