Tuesday sees a marked change in Finland’s weather, with extremely cold temperatures of up to -35 degrees centigrade to settle in over Lapland. The south will be as cold as -10 degrees. Some snow will is forecast for coastal regions, but most of the country will be dry.
The cold is set to soften slightly on Thursday, when cloudier conditions return and bring temperatures up to around -20 in Lapland and -5 in the south.
The shift to a high pressure system heralds the return of winter after several days in which falling, melting and then freezing snow has made life difficult for motorists and pedestrians.
