Yle awards a certificate of honour for the best classical music record each year. The 2014 honour has been granted to Janne Rättyä’s album, where the accordion artist interprets the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757). Scarlatti originally wrote his sonatas for harpsichord or fortepiano.

According to the award jury, Rättyä’s playing brings together tears and laughter, dance and philosophy, creating a meaningful whole out of Scarlatti’s short sonatas.

The Yle album of the year certificate of honour has been given out from 1971.  Yle’s music journalists and producers pick the winner from classical albums released within the year that contain Finnish music or music interpreted by Finnish artists.
