Police in the south-central Finnish town of Lahti received an alert of a burglary at a holiday home south of the city. They received a report of a man and a woman leaving the premises on foot.

A police patrol found two people who fit the description nearby, a man aged around 30 and a woman of around 40. During a preliminary interview they admitted to breaking into the cabin. They were found to be in possession of items stolen from the cottage, including tools and a game camera, used by hunters to detect wildlife.

By then, the camera had done its job – wirelessly transmitting a picture of the thieves to the cabin owner.

Chief constable Antti Reijula of the Häme Police told Yle that the owner received a photo of the break-in. The owner was able to describe the perpetrators to police.

The two were taken into custody at police headquarters in Lahti on suspicion of breaking and entering and theft.
