Quiet night for police - May Day revelers "battle weary"

Police report that Friday night was peaceful in most parts of the country, with no more disturbances than on regular weekends, despite the party traditions of May Day.

Helsinki police responded to 275 calls overnight, a level of activity that Chief Inspector Jukka Pippuri described to Yle as normal for a weekend.

"By now we can see 'battle weariness' among revelers as May Day eve was Thursday," explains Pippuri.

The exception was in the western region of Ostrobothnia, where police were busier than usual dealing with alcohol-fueled disputes.
