According to TS journalist Jenni Leppänen's report, only 200 of 320 spots were filled at Tampere's Police University College for the upcoming academic year, which starts in August.
At the same time as police unemployment rates are decreasing in Finland, the academy says that there simply were not enough qualified applicants to fill the 320 available spots for police officer training.
According to Petri Alkiora, the University College's Chief of Education, the academy is unwilling to compromise on entrance requirements by lowering its standards.
