Credit rating agency Moody’s Investors Service did not issue a new rating on Finland’s national debt on Friday evening though a new rating was expected. Moody’s has decided to postpone the announcement of the updated credit rating.
Yle and other domestic news services, along with the Reuters news agency, first reported that Finland’s credit rating had remained in the highest possible AAA category, when in fact the report was based on an older rating issued in the summer of 2015.
The State Treasury corrected the news on Twitter Saturday night.
The EU demands that credit rating agencies inform it of the day upon which new credit ratings are given out. The day must be a Friday when global stock markets close up for the weekend. Nevertheless Moody’s has announced that it will deliver its updated credit rating at a later date.
Ratings agencies have also held off publicising their updated ratings in the past.
