Nanso to shut down Tornio factory, drop some brands – 100 jobs on the line

Finnish clothing manufacturer Nanso has announced plans to mothball its Tornio factory by the end of the year, putting more than 100 people out of work. The company said that it will also sell off a large number of brands to the international clothing firm Pierre Robert Group.

Clothing producer Nanso announced Monday that it would close down a manufacturing facility in Tornio in northern Finland in autumn this year. The plant shutdown will eliminate 104 jobs.

The company said that in future it would focus exclusively on its Nanso and Vogue brands. The Norwegian-owned Pierre Robert Group has agreed to purchase the company’s Norlyn, Amar, Finnwear and Black Horse brands.

The deal means that 22 Nanso Group employees will be absorbed by Robert Pierre in a deal that will enter into force in about six weeks.

Nanso Group CEO Leena Syrjälä said in a company press release that the winding down of the Tornio plant was as a result of the decision to sell off the brands.

"Because of the deal agreed with Pierre Robert we will have a smaller product portfolio to manufacture, and there is no financial reason to continue production in Tornio. We are aiming to strengthen Nanso Group’s competitiveness and profitability with these measures," she added in the release.
