Tuesday saw the first UV radiation warning of the year as the Meteorological Institute cautioned people to take care as the Ultraviolet index hit 6.
In Åland, south-west Finland, Uusimaa and Kanta-Häme the UV radiation is particularly high. The index hits high levels on sunny days when there are few clouds in the sky and the ozone layer is not providing protection.
On average the UV-index hits these levels on eight days each year in Finland.
The worst of the radiation is to be experienced between 12 and 2pm. WHO guidance suggests that people cover up or stay in shady areas in the middle of the day, and protect their eyes with sunglasses if necessary when the UV index is high.
