Warm, summery weather should continue into the weekend in southern and western Finland, according to forecasters. According to Yle weatherman Toni Hellinen Sunday should be the warmest day of the mini-heatwave.
Friday is sunny and warm in the south, with cloudier weather in the north and east. Over the weekend some scattered showers will move in to west Lapland and Ostrobothnia. On Saturday most regions are forecast to be dry but cloudy, while Sunday is looking likely to be warm and sunny in the south and west.
What's more, the crucial 25 degree barrier (signifying 'Helle', the moment when Finns are semi-officially allowed to start complaining about the heat) could be broken.
On Sunday the 25 degree mark won't be far off, said Hellinen, but it's a difficult point to reach in September when the sun is lower in the sky.
Even on Saturday temperatures should exceed 20 degrees in southern and western Finland. Hellinen says that the summery conditions are expected, as of Friday, to continue into next week.
