Police suspect Kemi man of firing on immigrants with air rifle

Police in Kemi have questioned a man suspected of firing an air rifle at two immigrants last Friday. Investigators described the nearly 70 year-old man as anti-immigration after speaking with him.

Kemi police have questioned a man suspected of shooting at two immigrants with an air rifle last Friday evening. The officers described the man as anti-immigration after speaking with him.

The incident occurred between 7.00 and 8.00 on Friday evening in Takajärvi. The 66 year-old allegedly fired on the migrants from his property as they walked past in the street.

Police said that the victims had been shaken by the incident. The shooter is suspected of aggravated attempted assault.

Investigators are calling on members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to come forward to provide additional information.

An air gun or rifle uses conpressed air or gas to fire projectiles, typically plastic or metallic pellets. Some may also use arrows or feathered darts. They are most often used for hunting, pest control, recreational shooting or competitive sports.

Police did not indicate what kind of air gun was involved in the incident.
