Finnish Customs employs around 2,200 people. A series of staggered layoffs, planned for next year, will affect all personnel. Each employee will be on unpaid leave for 1-2 weeks.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, the customs service aims to trim spending by some four millions euros in 2017. A number of other budget savings measures are to be imposed, but Finnish Customs says that they will not be sufficient to reach its target without staff layoffs.
