Yle meteorologist Joonas Koskela says some of today's precipitation fell as sleet, making roads and pavements very slippery.
The front of rain will move east during the day, where cooler temperatures will turn it into sleet and snow. Heavy northern winds are expected in western and southern areas, making outdoor temperatures feel even colder. The winds will also create dangerous conditions at sea.
The skies will clear in the south as the evening approaches.
"Temperatures will fall below freezing throughout the country overnight. Tuesday will be cold, with temperatures falling to minus 15 degrees Celsius in Lapland", says Joonas Koskela.
