A 35-year-old man died in the custody of police in Helsinki on Monday.

In a press statement, Helsinki police said the man passed away at Pasila station in the capital despite attempts to resuscitate him.

An investigation into the incident has been launched by a separate department — the Western Uusimaa Police Department — as it is usually the case when a prisoner dies in police custody that a different unit takes over the investigation.

This is to ensure the credibility and transparency of the investigation, the statement noted.
