There were fewer job vacancies in Finland during the second quarter of this year in comparison to the same period last year, according to Statistics Finland.
The agency's figures, published on Monday, revealed that there were 47,000 job vacancies from April to June 2024, compared to 52,700 in Q2 of last year.
The drop was driven in particular by fewer jobs being available in the more populated regions of southern Finland and Uusimaa, the area surrounding Helsinki. However, there was a slight increase in vacancies in other parts of the country.
Many sectors also reported fewer jobs being available, including in public administration, education, health and social work, as well as in trade, transportation, storage, accommodation, and food services.
Last week, Statistics Finland published a report revealing that Finland's unemployment rate, which currently stands at 8.4 percent, is among the worst in the EU.
As unemployment rises and the amount of job vacancies falls, jobseekers in Finland face increasingly difficult and prolonged searches. By the end of June, the number of unemployed jobseekers in Finland had risen to 293,000, up by 28,600 from last year, according to the latest employment bulletin published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
