I was in the Battle of the Books club for all three years of middle school. In this club we would read a certain number of books during the school year and attend a trivia competition for all of the books at the end of the year. This encouraged me to read as many books as possible. This would be cool to do for the school-wide reading challenge. Find small, lightweight objects that are the same size to do this on the bulletin board to make it look more interesting, or the paper with the student's name and book? Or popsicle sticks? She says she would do anything to get kids to read. I guess this is her way of walking the talk! @Jill Meyers Beer Pta Programs, Incentive Ideas, Reading Week, Read A Thon, Reading Incentives, Pta Ideas, Family Literacy, Accelerated Reader, School Carnival

Each nine weeks we ask our students to be responsible for reading 25-30 books with the goal of reading a million words each year. It sure was a Monday! I stayed late at school today to get all of my plans uploaded, copies made, and organized. WHEW! It feels GREAT! My students are keeping track of the minutes they read AT HOME. We have a contest going on where they can earn prizes and I have a graph on the bulletin board outside of my room. The challenge is for everyone to read 210 minutes, the TSHIRT level! If we all get a T-Shirt, we get a pizza party! YUMM! They are very excited and today, I gave away the seventh…
