Charlotte Buckingham on Instagram: "And before the neggy comments arrive… we know these worktops may not last ✌🏽 BUT… they are affordable and appropriate for our budget currently, and we are OBSESSED with the look of plywood, so we have to give it a try, right?! If you followed in our stories a few weekends back, we ended up redoing the island as we originally did it in marine ply which when sealed gave a more of a dark walnut finish. We ended up using structural ply from @wickes which cost us £40 per sheet. In total, these worktops cost us less than £200. If we need to change a few years down the line - that’s good with us! We’ve sealed and protected using @rubiomonocoatuk Oil 2C in Pure (pr product). This piece had seen some things and clearly the base was not original so I made my own. Do you like the new look? What I did: - Built a custom base with reclaimed hardwood lumber and walnut plywood using dowel joinery - bleached out water stains using oxalic acid - Glued down any loose veneer with @titebondwoodproducts wood glue - Fixed smaller blemishes with @gorksgoodfilla pre mixed rosewood water based wood filler - Filled large voids with @jbweldDIY 2 part epoxy putty tinted with mixol Tints - Sanded the piece with @seriousgrit sanding pads - Stained the legs with @Zarfinishes Premium Teak Stain - Sealed the piece with @Zinsser Sealcoat - Performed color touchup Varnishing Wood, Dowel Joinery, Oxalic Acid, Walnut Plywood, Resto Mod, Epoxy Putty, Hardwood Lumber, Wood Filler, Product List
