Lauren Jansen | DIY on Instagram: "I did it!! I painted the garage doors black and… I LOVE THEM. I didn’t think I would honestly. I thought it would be too much for this home. But I think they ground and balance the house in such a nice way. The copper hardware doesn’t hurt either 🤌 oh and painting them wasn’t hard at all! Here’s how I did it… I started by removing the old hardware, cleaning the doors, and taping around the trim. Then I used a bonding primer (zinsser bondz) before applying two coats of Sherwin Williams Everlast paint in Tricorn Black with a flat finish. Make sure you remove the tape while the paint is still wet and raise the garage doors halfway for the paint to dry without the panels sticking together. FYI, you will have some prep beforehand- you will need to trim the weather stripping to ensure that the panels won’t move when you open the door. We found it easiest to take off the trim and cut it with a table-saw, for an extra clean line. Each panel is labeled with a number that way you know exactly where to start.
