A:
Hopis - a Native American tribe
Could point to a spring - could show you a place where water flows out from under the ground
Where they had emerged from - from this water source the Hopi people had come into this world
Several worlds beneath this one - under our world called Earth there were several other worlds (they believed)
And from which - and from one of these other worlds
Sustaining spirits - supernatural beings that give life force (energy, soul) to the Hopi people and their land
Visited annually - visited them every year
The people from the Native American Hopi tribe could gesture to the water flowing above ground and say: “See that water over there? That’s where we came from, from another world deep below this one. The beings that nourish our land and give life to our people still come to visit us from that world every year.”
