A: Et al. and etc are very similar, but etc is more common in daily use. Etc is short for "et cetra", and et al is short for el alia. I personally have never heard anyone say/use Et alia in full before, but occasionally will hear et al used.

I believe et al. is used mostly in a formal academic setting, like when giving credit to source material, while etc is used more widely for anything. Et al. is also almost always written with a period after al.

you only have to reference the very first name, then the rest are included under et al.

Etc is far easier to use, it can refer to people or things in a list that you don't want or need to explain fully.

Finally, "thought" is a noun or a verb and though spelled similarly to "though" it is pronounced quite differently.
