The United Nations COP 15 committed to the protection of 30% of Earth’s terrestrial environments to provide Biospheric Sustainability. However, proactive amphibian sustainability needs support from amphibian Reproduction Technologies, Biobanking, and Conservation Breeding Programs [RBCs]. These technologies include the reliable practice of stimulation of reproduction and the collection of sperm and oocytes, refrigerated and cryopreserved sperm storage, in vitro fertilization. Emerging technologies promise the perpetuation of species solely from biobanked biomaterials. However, although exemplary national programs for amphibian RBCs are now established in the USA and Australia, these potentials are not fully realised resulting in unacceptable biodiversity loss. To fully realise these potentials an independent and democratic global organisation is proposed to, 1) focus on the bioregions with the highest ...

и Libelloides macaronius oculatus (Brullé, 1832), stat. n. = Ascalaphus kolyvanensis var. ponticus McLachlan, 1876, syn. n..

IUCN estimates that 41% of amphibian species are threatened. The year 2008 was named as “The Year of the Frog” to raise both awareness and funding of mainly ex situ programs needed to mitigate the amphibian extinction crisis. Zoos and aquariums are expected to participate in ex situ conservation breeding programs of endangered species. Number of publications documents the increasing concern in amphibian captive breeding programs. In this paper, we reviewed the current effort of public zoological gardens in Czech Republic on amphibian keeping and breeding. Our results show that species collections reflect combination of the availability of species in the pet trade and the availability of surplus animals from other zoos, but not the needs of amphibian conservation.

A new approach for method of keeping Rhacophorus orlovi as type anuran for establishing a group-keeping “model species” together with species of genus Theloderma and Nyctixalus, which may display an important role for public education as major part of amphibian conservation, is presenting. Basic principles in exhibiting frog species to public are briefly described.

More than ~200 species are in immediate need of conservation breeding programs (CBPs) to prevent their extinction and to provide for potential translocation, supplementation, head-starting and re-habitation projects (Johnson, 2016). Besides species in immediate need of CBPs there more than 750 species that may requiring CBPs in the foreseeable future (Ark, 2017a; IUCN, 2017; Zippel et al., 2011). Thirty percent of anurans (frogs and toads), 50% of caudata (salamanders and newts), and 3% of caecilians are listed as threatened (IUCN, 2017). However, the conservation status of many amphibian species, and particularly caecilians (Gower et al., 2013), cannot be ascertained due to a lack of data (IUCN, 2017). Hundreds of described species, and never described species may already be extinct ().

We explore "Zoo-based amphibian research and conservation breeding programs" through conducting a literature review and a survey of research publication with public and subscription search engines. Amphibians are ideal candidates for zoo-based amphibian research and CBPs because of their generally small size, high fecundity, ease of husbandry, and amenability to the use of reproduction technologies. Zoo-based amphibian research and CBPs can include both in situ and ex situ components that offer excellent opportunities for display and education, in range capacity building and community development, and the support of biodiversity conservation in general. Zoo-based amphibian research and CBPs can also benefit zoos through developing networks and collaborations with other research institutions, and with government, business, an...

The species was crossing road from southern latitude 500 m to 1367 m in the northern parts across river Mahal (33°57'39.15"N 73°47'42.66"E). The species is rear, vulnerable in (IUCN) listed in CITES Appendix II. The documented distribution range of endemic King Cobra is East Asia and Southeast Asia, but was unrecorded in Western Himalayas (Pir Punjal range) of Kashmir (Pakistan). These findings are new distribution records for the species and addition in checklist of ophidian fauna both, for the Azad Kashmir area and Pakistan.
