Seafair 2014

I took the girls to watch the Seafair airshow today. We saw a biplane doing maneuvers.
The flying heritage collection including a Supermarine Spitfire, P-40C Tomahawk, P-51D Mustang, and P-47D Thunderbolt.
Then we moved out to the I-90 bridge deck for the rest - the Patriots Jet Team.
The Marine Demonstration including lots of different helicopters like Hueys, Chinooks (Phrogs), Cobras, CH-53E Super Stallions, as well as a Harrier jet, Ospreys, F/A-18s, and a C-130.
(That's one of the Ospreys). I was watching more than taking pictures, so there's not many. And then they got ready for it to get loud!!
Here come the Blue Angels!

So awesome!
Thanks for the show!!

Sushi Me!

The girls got to try sushi for the first time today. I talked it up ahead of time and showed them a menu with descriptions of what was in it, so they'd trust that it really was just rice, salmon, and avocado in the ones I'd pick out for them.
First - they watched the conveyor belt for a little while so I could decide what I wanted (and big sister).
Then we started getting a few items - Alaska King salmon & Philadelphia rolls.
By then, Bekah was more interested in the TV above me, while Kimberly was attempting to separate chopsticks.
They did great, though I'm not sure they'll be begging to go back for more any time soon. They did eat everything on their plate, plus a piece of New York roll (with apples!) and some tiny eclairs for dessert. Kelsi and I enjoyed ourselves.

Advanced Green Belt Test

Both girls tested for their advanced green belts in Tae Kwon Do on Saturday night. Here they are getting ready - smiling and tiger growl!
(Or launching yourself at Momma in Bekah's case)

Kimberly ended up being near where we were sitting, but you can see Bekah on the left, at the far end of the row behind her.
Rising front kick during warm ups:
Rising side kick
Getting their sparring gear on. Standing at the mirror are Kimberly in teal and Rebekah in pink.

I'll have to see if I can post the video of them doing form. Ki-hop!!

Orienteering

Today the girls had their first taste of using a compass and really reading a map - we did a little orienteering course at Wilburton Park in Bellevue. There are a bunch of permanent courses all over the area, so we picked one and went!
Found their first one!
And the last - #14!

We'll have to see what course we can find to do next. They spent two hours walking around finding all the markers and were super excited. Fun!!

Summer: Day 1

We started the first day of the girls' summer break by going out to breakfast at Lil Jon. They LOVE the French toast there!
We've also been attempting to make plans for the summer days and went to our local farmer's market. We got strawberries, raspberries, Rainier cherries, pears, cauliflower, Walla Walla sweet onion, and ordered an eighth of a Yakima-raised, grass-fed, 2-year-old cow that we'll get in September. Phew!!

The girls have ten new books from the library to read - including Magic Schoolbus ones. They really love those books and TV episodes on Netflix.

Next is some meal planning! Or maybe that's just me - we'll see.

Summer's here!

Last day of 1st grade was yesterday!
