The IOF has given my friend Abed @mohmad5 and his wife @safa-abed seven hours to leave before bombing starts.

They are crouched in the rubble of their former home waiting to die.

The road costs $1000 per person. I have no hope of getting him this without help. Please do what you can for him.

i laughed way too much at “he’s dead we’re free”

everytime someone tries to whip out freud or freudian nonsense you gotta hit them with the truth: he’s dead, we’re free 🥰

can I just say…….. sometimes people send me asks and I feel like you just want me to be a more lively version chatgpt. like, in the time it took you to type, “hi do you have any articles about xyz” you could have literally typed that into a search engine. I appreciate that research is difficult for some ppl and I’m happy to help where it’s genuinely needed. I’m a trained educator, I obviously believe in informing people which is why I’ll try my best to help people and never share anything with a paywall. but a lot of the time i feel like certain asks just want me to do their work for them. like. no offence but I have way more interesting things to say about stuff then regurgitating information ppl simply couldn’t be bothered to read themselves. Idk when this happened exactly, but sometime in the last few years ppl decided asking strangers for basic ROTE information replaced Looking Up Things and it’s really weird.

Have you read any detailed analysis of anne rices vampire chronicles through post colonial lens that you can recommend???? or just anything thats highly critical of her racism & orientalism . Much thanks 🙏

yes. I’m writing an essay about this so I am looking for papers with this focus! there’s loads on google scholar that are available without institutional credentials. also lots of articles that critics have published in news/culture outlets on both the books and the film over the last 5 decades. just…search those terms and you’ll see :)) when I publish my essay eventually I’ll also share my bibliography but until then happy researching to us both <3

hii, I am not a hunger games fan, watched all the movies to be able to understand convos about it but what I wanted to ask was: How many people are whitewashed in the movie? I'm only aware of Katniss and Haymitch, and I saw a video saying that Rue was a darkskin black girl instead of a light skinned one. Are those 3 the only instances or were multiple people whitewashed with thier movie counterparts?

not sure why you’re asking this when you’re not a fan but anyway. Haymitch, Gale and Katniss are all whitewashed in the films. As for Rue, Black fans (including me) have often pointed out that in the films she is lighter than the other Black characters from District 11, which is certainly colourism. However, this colourism is not necessarily mirrored in the book. In the book, I believe Rue was described consistently as having brown skin and Black features and so was her fellow tribute, Thresh (happy to be corrected btw). I personally feel this is because Suzanne Collins is white and so she doesn’t write people of colour with the level of specificity you’d get from a writer of colour. You’d know all this if you read the book yourself btw it’s a good read.

today’s hottake: u can always tell if a version of sherlock holmes is decent by how Irene Adler is written. Irene Adler’s purpose in the original Canon was to outsmart Holmes and force him to self reflect on his hubris and misogyny NOT to be a love interest. If an adaptation of Holmes shows Irene Adler as exclusively a love interest, or excludes her entirely, 9 times out of 10 its a sign that the writers are more interested in Holmes as an infallible figure of masculine intelligence than as a, like, human being or well rounded character. this is why Irene Adler is one of, if not the, most important characters in the whole sherlock holmes mythology and quite a revolutionary character given the context in which she was written but most adaptations completely disregard and belittle her because they’re misogynistic, homophobic, stupid, or a perfectly uninspiring combination of all three.
