Best attribute you can have working with kids is chillness. You can and should still enforce rules and expectations, but kids pick up massively on vibes and if you are chill, you become a dam to unchillness

sandersstudies

Sometimes kids don’t need to hear “this behavior is unacceptable,” sometimes they need to hear “bruh.”

sandersstudies

If you establish really clear expectations from the get-go, kids usually don’t actually need any second explanation. You can just say “dude” and they will self-correct unless they are actively trying to be disruptive.

sandersstudies

“Guys if you don’t behave I’m not going to do the Fortnite dance for you anymore.”

“NOOOOOOOOO”

sandersstudies

Also if you sincerely commit to being chill 99.9% of the time, they will take that remaining 0.1% WAY more seriously when it’s actually most essential. (For me this line is crossed with unwanted violence or sexual behavior toward other students, but depending on the age group the line may be drawn elsewhere: for young children it is probably more centered around dangerous behavior and personal risk.)

A PSA about trucks from a truck driver

thehumantrampoline

I and some colleagues were talking about how we wish everyone could see the safety videos that our company was showing us, because I don’t think most people understand how traffic works in a truck. So here’s some things we wish everyone on the road knew.

- we’re not kidding about tailgating. If you’re right behind us on a straight highway? Chances are we have NO IDEA you’re there, which means we can’t anticipate any of your movements. Plus slowing down takes multiple downshifts, so we might start decreasing speed way earlier than you expect.

- We’re not kidding about any of our blind spots. WE CAN’T SEE YOU, GUYS.

- That bit about slowing down taking a while? The same goes for when you’re in front of us. Don’t cut off a truck. Oh god, PLEASE don’t cut off a truck. If you cut me off, I’m not irritated, I’m terrified. For YOU. It can take 7 to 9 seconds for us to stop. DON’T CUT OFF TRUCKS.

- Before you get mad about how slow we’re going on the highway, keep in mind that many companies govern their vehicles so they literally CAN’T go over 60 or 65. This is a good thing, I promise. Because…

- Do you know what happens when a car meets a truck in an accident? The car gets totaled and the truck needs a new coat of paint. You will not win this fight. I know nobody likes getting stuck behind a big dumb truck, but it’s not worth your life.

We are trying our best to protect you from our 80,000 pound death machines. Please help us out.

Whump Prompt #1033

promptsforyourwhumpfic

Submitted by Anon - thanks!

When the team decides to sleep in shifts, but whumpee knows they aren’t going to sleep at all (maybe they have nightmares, or plain insomnia), so they just take the first watch and don’t wake anyone else up. Maybe they keep this up for days until they collapse from sheer exhaustion, or maybe their team forces them to take a nap on someone’s back or on top of the cargo because they can’t afford to stop moving.

I don't think I've seen anybody talk about how absolutely insane The Boiling Rock is from Hakoda's perspective.

Imagine getting captured, and your son tells you that you won't be apart for too long. That's sweet, but obviously your son has no resources to spare for organizing a breakout. You hope that the Avatar can defeat the Fire Lord soon - that's the earliest time you could hope to be rescued.

You get put into a temporary holding facility until the guards can sort out who is who. After a while, they put you on a prisoner transport to the Boiling Rock. Your captors try to intimidate you by telling you that it's the highest security prison in the Fire Nation, probably the whole world. It's far away from the capital.

You arrive at the Boiling Rock. It really is in the middle of a boiling lake. There's only one way in or out, and it's a gondola that takes you above the boiling lake. You meet the warden. They take you to your cell. You settle down to wait for the end of the war.

And 15 minutes later Sokka comes in like "hey dad I'm here I got the prince of the Fire Nation and an Earth Kingdom ninja leader gf ok let's go I'm busting you out"

I just reada really good fic but halfway through I realized "oh shit this is really familiar.... didn't I write something like this once?" And as I kept reading I kept predicting what happened next and the further I went the more convinced I was that they'd ripped off my story-

like, copied the ENTIRE plot and re-written it, just better than I had? The characters were more fleshed-out than mine were, and the POV was more interesting, and the pace made more sense- but it was MY STORY?

So close to the end I was like "holy shit.. do I message them? Ask if my story inspired theirs? Should I be angry? Flattered?" Cause their tags and description didn't mention me AT ALL, which, sure, it's fanfiction to begin with, but if you're using my work than at least credit me as inspo, right? Just to be courteous?

But I get to the end of the final chapter, and it's not finished, and I'm kind of disappointed cause I never finished my story and I was really immersed in their version now and had been looking forwards to seeing how they tied up my loose ends- so I scroll to the bottom to leave a comment, and.

It's MY URL.

IT WAS MY STORY THE WHOLE TIME.

THE ONE *I WROTE*.

In *2013*.

And FORGOT ABOUT

BECAUSE I WAS SO INSECURE ABOUT MY SLOPPY, SHALLOW, AMETEUR WRITING

And I'm just sitting here now staring into space thinking about every shitty story I've ever written now like

IT WAS ALL GOOD?

image

IT WAS GOOD THIS WHOLE DAMN TIME??

I'M A GOOD WRITER?????

you didn't ONCE think to check the url?

I WANTED TO FINISH READING IT FIRST

thinking about how social media reflects the best parts of people and never the worst. been struggling a lot with anxiety, sleep, drinking too much, and eating way too much junk food while at the same time trying to lose weight and struggling with an eating disorder.

and like that’s a random monday. like social media not showing all of that blows my mind in a way.

and i’ve been sick of feeling like garbage, so i’m practicing ways to calm my anxiety and i take medications for it, i’ve cut out alcohol 100% indefinitely, i go for 5 runs a week in a good week, and eat decently?

but like how long did it take for me to get there???? been a bumpy ride and all because of my shitty job (which i’ve since quit THANK GOODNESS)

just a venting post, thx for reading :)

Pick 3 OCs and give them each a song

Thanks for the tag, @literally-just-zay

I was planning to just do three but it was pretty fun so I just did the whole squad.

MA- Time in a bottle (Jim Croce)

Above all else, MA loves the world and wants to cherish every moment in it.

Owen- Army Dreamers (Kate Bush)

I had trouble with this one, but it fits him best because he could have been so much more if he had been given proper care.

Ember- Gasoline (Halsey)

Ember wasn't always a piromaniac, but one too many blows to the head, and one failed burning execution changed many things about her.

Bonus!

Tori-Baker (Aimee Carty)

He is quite skilled and, in his own way, very good at his job. He just works with crazy people who are better than him in their fields.

Hati- Believer (Imagine Dragons)

A core concept of Hati is his ability to change the world based on his beliefs

Billy- Gotta Be A Reason (Alec Benjamin)

The centuries have not been kind to Billy, but he has to keep moving because who else will?

So fun!! Thanks for the tag!!

Holly (Creatrackers): Ghost Adventure Spirit Orb - Chloe Moriondo

Milly (MOTS): My Tears Ricochet - Taylor Swift

Aurymn (MOTS): Meet Me In The Woods Tonight - Lord Huron

Honestly so many Lord Huron songs fit both Milly and Aurymn... At Sea... Cursed...

I'll be tagging @annarts05 @comicgoblinwrites @toribookworm22 @little-mouse-gardens @buffythevampirelover + open tag!

how to outline a story:

  1. write a bullet point list of everything that happens
  2. realize it doesn’t make sense
  3. cry
  4. start writing anyway
author-a-holmes

  1. Write a bullet point list of everything that happens.
  2. Realise that it doesn't make sense, but that's okay because an outline is just a guideline anyway.
  3. Start writing, and notice that as you write you are changing things from your outline to better tell the story you wanted to tell.
  4. Be shocked that you can adjust your outline as you write, to accomodate the additional storytelling you've discovered as you go, and that an outline is just a set of railroad tracks to take you in the right direction, meanwhile, the story is the train.
  5. Have FUN.
they change constantly thats the POINT
