Mario shivered, both from the chill of the odd air current flowing into the pipe and from the unease creeping into his bones. He shook his head and backed away, carefully lowering himself from the lip of the pipe back down to the concrete floor.
Luigi was curious and inquisitive, traits that had landed him in unlucky situations more times than Mario could count, but he was also as skittish as a deer. If that pipe put Mario on edge, the plumber thought to himself decisively, there was no way Luigi would go anywhere near it.
Or: An AU where Luigi keeps a slightly better grip on his pipe wrench and leaves his family with a missing person case.
