Summary
Serena is only a minor character in the 1994 British movie, but if you look closely, the love story between herself and David, the deaf character, is compelling. More than that, though, she's the perfect character to reflect upon what's going on with the larger group of friends as the movie unfolds.
I have written this in diary form, based upon what she feels in line with her appearances in the movie. I will try to add notes to each chapter so that you can follow along in the movie itself. This means that some of what you read will be in line with canon, but there are going to have to be times when I invent something, because none of these characters were given a backstory in the movie.
As always, comments and encouragement are appreciated.

Summary
This was inspired by a comment on a story by the highly skilled honey_and_smoke, who wrote the story “The Living at Kymptom”.
I am not sure why, but in the space of a few hours, this poetry just flowed out of me. There is a little bit of Pride and Prejudice in it.

Summary
I saw a Youtube clip of the Japanese TV series Gokusen recently (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfJp0THVHw4 - property of Nippon Television) and remembered just how much fun it was. I'd been looking at Archie comics, and also remembered Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Not sure how I got here, but I liked the idea of combining the two. This is set in (roughly) 1962, as that was the year Sabrina first appeared. It's also far enough back that the Archie characters could act (and be perceived) as their Silver Age selves. But if I'm going to write about them, then they're going to be different to their cartoon selves. I'm not remotely interested in going anywhere near as dark as Riverdale, but these are still teenagers; in real life, they're not angelic, either.
Yankumi, in this setting, is a Nissei (second generation) Japanese born in America. I'm not sure if attitudes towards Japanese people had started to improve by this time, but I'm going to assume such changes took a long time in small towns like Riverdale. Sabrina is a teacher like Yankumi, and is about six years older than the Archie kids. That's not in line with canon, but the story doesn't work without the age shift.

Summary
I loved the New Zealand comic strip Footrot Flats (1976-1994) when I was younger. For those who don't know it, here's the fan site: https://www.footrotflats.com/
One of the running gags in the story was how absurdly jealous the main character, "The Dog" (a border collie) was of his master's (Wallace Footrot, a farmer) main love interest, an (alleged) femme fatale known as Darlene "Cheeky" Hobson. I wasn't happy with how this was resolved in the original strip, and it made me wonder....what type of situation would force these two rivals for Wal's love to finally bury the hatchet?
And then the answer came to me from the phrase "the Shaky Isles".....

Two kids grow up in a royal household. One is the prince, the other becomes the court jester. As kids, they play fight and get into adventures together. As teenagers, things get more difficult as hormones come into play, and the jester uses her sharp tongue to both warn the prince of pretenders (in every sense of the word) - and to mask her growing feelings for him. As young adults, life's responsibilities cannot be avoided...and it all comes down to a brutal climax....

Summary
Imagine if Charlotte Lucas's plan to capture Mr. Collins backfires. Then imagine if Mr Darcy's snide comments at the Netherfield Ball were aimed at Charlotte, not Elizabeth Bennet.
What happens when you lose hope altogether? What happens when you and your best friend feel that you don't understand each other at all, and you're not talking?
And what matters most - nobility of rank, or nobility of character?
UPDATE November 2024: Thanks to some kind feedback from deniseks_syd, I have made sure that the first ball is at Lucas Lodge, not at Netherfield as I'd previously written. As such, those who've read the story before will notice some slight wording changes in the first few chapters.
