    Summary

When trying to transfer Shen Yuan from the real world to Proud Immortal Demon Way, the System runs into an error. The transfer is not complete.

Shen Yuan is dropped off at the foot of a mountain aware of two things: he's in the story, and the Shen Qingqiu of this world is not only aware but thinks he tried to possess his body — and he's PISSED. Shen Yuan tries to opt out and live a simple life on what locals tell him is a monster-infested mountain no one in their right mind would bother with.

Sounds like a great hiding spot!

(TL;DR: Stardew Scum Villain Valley Mountain.)

    Chapter recaps available here.

💌 Please note I am very behind on replies. I have full intentions of catching up, but my spoons for this are sporadically available. I appreciate them tremendously, always.

    christ this is so charming

“Shen-Qianbei!” the boy protested. “It’s too much!”

“Nonsense. I’ve barely given you anything. If I’d had more time to prepare, your shifu wouldn’t have anywhere to store them even in his Qiankun Pouch, ah! But this is what I’ve managed to accumulate for you already, so you may as well take them or they’ll get in my way here. What if I tripped over them? ‘Alas, Shen-gege is no more, he stepped on a comb that wasn’t meant to be there and fell over the cliff — so sad!’”

The boy made an expression that was halfway annoyed, partly upset, and a little amused. “Shen-Qianbei…”

“Ah! Accept, accept! One should always bring something with them when they move somewhere new. That’s how you make it feel like home more quickly. Liu-gege, it’s okay if I give your disciple these things, isn’t it?”

Liu Qingge didn’t roll his eyes, but he gave the impression he had. “En.”

“There, see? Your shifu says it’s okay, so you can’t refuse me!”

    Binghe sighed. “Yes, Shen-Qianbei.”

    Summary

In the doorway stood a man, lithe and deadly, who looked like a character out of a storybook. He was dressed entirely in black, even his hair and face covered; only a small slit revealed his eyes, a deep extraordinary blue, and a strip of pale skin. In one hand he held a sword. The gleam of lamplight off his blade seemed to overwhelm the room. For a moment everyone stood in frozen shock, looking at this interloper.

After a pointed moment — during which Damen thought again of a cat, who wanted to make clear that any fulfillment of a person’s wishes was only a coincidental alignment with the cat’s own desires — the knife was withdrawn. The hand in Damen’s hair released its grip. The man behind him took a single step backwards.

    Summary

There was something of Xiao Jingyan there, in the firmness of his jaw, the unforgiving slash of his brows, and most clearly in the eyes that neither saw nor conveyed deception. But Long Zhan was not Jingyan, could never be, no matter how much Changsu might wish otherwise, because Jingyan was dead.

In service to a very-much-alive Prince Qi, Jingyan dons a Jianghu-typical disguise and infiltrates the Jiangzuo Alliance to suss out this Mei Changsu fellow and see if he might be useful in helping them re-open the Chiyan conspiracy case.

Basically, a slightly ridiculous premise where everyone is running around the Jianghu with masks, multiple identities, and secret agendas.

“Chief Mei also inspires loyalty,” Long Zhan said.

Raising a brow, Changsu asked, “Do you mean to imply that I also am great, or that greatness is not necessary to inspire loyalty?”

That startled the placid, servile hunch out of Long Zhan’s posture. He straightened, shoulders thrown back, holding his pole upright as a soldier would a polearm. “This one certainly did not mean that. Chief Mei plays with words and twists them.”

This was too easy and too much fun. “You didn’t mean I was great, or didn’t mean I wasn’t?”

“I—you—” Long Zhan took a breath, nostrils flaring like a vexed horse. “I meant no insult to Chief Mei.”

“Then what did you mean?” Changsu asked with a slight tilt of his head. Taking pity on Long Zhan, he added, “Speak plainly.”

    vexed horse

Long Zhan shifted, gaze flicking away. “Chief Shui was considering an alliance based on your reputation. alone. I was the one who wanted to make certain of you.” And then, as though he’d rather spit out his own teeth than the admission, “It was Chief Shui’s order that I do so under false pretenses.”

Changsu couldn’t find it in himself to be angry. Perhaps it was Long Zhan’s discomfort, which his Chief must have anticipated, or that Long Zhan’s own distrust was the cause of his current misery. Certainly, the stubborn plum blossom petal contributed.

    “Why,” he asked.

“Because he enjoys tormenting me,” Long Zhan muttered.

“I can see the appeal,” Changsu said before Long Zhan could replace his words with a more politic answer. “Come here. I can’t speak to you when…”

Changsu moved closer, reaching up to brush away the silly petal. Startled, Long Zhan retreated a step. His foot caught in the space between one border stone and the next. The pole fell as he wheeled his arms to keep himself from doing the same. Changsu tried to catch him, but only succeeded in catching the front of his tunic, which was ripped out of his weak grip as Long Zhan fell backward into the pond.

i can see the appeal these idiots i swear to jesus

Transmigration is a dream come true. It’s only a shame he has this of all things come true. Him! As Ming Fan! The boy who grew up only to die of ants. It had been an almost well-deserved death, sure, but Shen Yuan is the one in the body now and he would rather fucking not.

    -

A humble transmigrator is assigned a role he does not find particularly flattering. Can he please get recast?

“This is a good hug,” Ming Fan finally says, his chin hooked over Luo Binghe’s shoulder so that his face is unseen. “Really well done, Binghe. You’re helping me already, see? So don’t be upset.”

“Yes, Da-shixiong,” Luo Binghe mumbles, not moving an inch away from Ming Fan. The greedy part of him that can eat and eat and never grow sated wants for him to never let go, to see just how long he will be allowed to hold Ming Fan before being told to let go.
