日本国内における「Wii」の販売数は、4月時点では「PLAYSTATION 3」（PS3）の4倍だったが、5月にはこの差がさらに拡大して5倍になったと、Bloombergが報じている。 Bloombergは、『ファミ通』を発行するエンターブレインの統計を引用し、日本では5月にPS3の5倍に相当する25万1794台のWiiが販売されたことを明らかにした。さらに大きな遅れをとるMicrosoftの「Xbox 360」は、5月に1万1082台売れたとされる。PS3の正確な販売数は明かされていないが、おそらく5万台前後だと思われる。 携帯型ゲームの市場における戦いも同様の状況だ。「Nintendo DS」は5月に62万670台売れたのに対し、「PlayStation Portable」の販売数は12万3673台だった。
