Music press is no exception in that respect. In the context of South European states, these processes coincide with the period of political, social, cultural and economic transition, giving rise to the development of numerous regional and local specific forms of popular culture. The existence of the SFRY as a shared state enabled the creation of an authentic cultural space, which continued to develop even after its disintegration.

Over the course of the last decade, farms in Vojvodina have become popular tourist destination and an attraction as a form of rural and cultural tourism. Farms which have been revitalized to meet the needs of tourism are represented as “places of returning to tradition” in brochures and the media, thus creating a romanticized and idealized image of the past of Vojvodina peasants. The paper examines the ways in which elements of traditional culture are incorporated into the tourist offer. The gastronomic policies of salaš- restaurants is associated with the global “slow food” movement which is based on localy grown and produced food and traditional preparation techniques. The paper is the result of fieldwork conducted in salaš-farms in Bačka and Banat, which have been revitalized as catering businesses and tourist attractions, as well as on the ana...

The series includes four important elements of higher education – the institution of the university, its administration, university staff (professors/lecturers), and the student population; due to the format of the series, however, these elements have not been given equal attention. Furthermore, through the story of a woman of color at a university who suddenly finds herself in the position of department chair, this six-part mini-series addresses and/or elaborates on a whole set of messages and issues with which the wider audience can identify – an audience interested in questions regarding universities, the humanities, and wider social issues such as gender, race, age and class (in)equalities in academia, and also in western society...

After outlining the basic genre characteristics of "migrant literature" and the so-called gastarbeiter novel, the paper proceeds to analyze the dominant themes and motifs in the novel The Taxi Driver of München. This work, written in the tradition of realist narration, deals with the immediate experience of migranthood and represents a prototype of the first-generation gastarbeiter novel. It is narrated from the perspective of a "guest worker" in Germany – through the character of the protagonist, the taxi driver Marko Mandić, Romano Mrkić writes about himself and his immigrant experience, about important Others and the complex modalities of migrant identity and (non)belonging. In addition to depicting the everyday experience of the gastarbeiter in Germany...

In addition to the distinct methodology (ethnographic field work), the essential aspect of anthropological study of tourism is an emphasis on the socio-cultural dimension of tourism. Within the anthropological research of tourism, the research interest is focused on understanding the social and cultural nature of tourism.

The poems in this collection were written during his stay in FR Germany from 1969 to 1980. Drago Trumbetaš (1937–2018) was a versatile Croatian self-taught artist and a member of the first wave of Yugoslav economic migrants who went to “temporary“ work in the developed countries of Western Europe in the 1960s. During his stay in FR Germany, Trumbetaš worked various low paid physical jobs and his artistic expression was strongly imbued with personal migrant experiences. Almost all artistic work of Trumbetaš (series of drawings, novels, plays and poetry) is devoted to depicting the life of Yugoslav gastarbeiters. After determining the prevailing topics on the collection of poems, an analysis of their meaning will be undertaken through the anthropological, sociological and historical literature on the phenomenon of “temporar...

Food/nutrition in these movies functions as a metaphor which is used to depict the future regression of human civilization to a hypothetical previous stage of development. Food also becomes a powerful symbol in these movies, it is used to outline the boundary (but is also a mediator) between order (civilization) and chaos (the post-apocalyptic society of the future), to underline the contrast between us (we, humans) and others (them, non-humans). The questions posed in this paper are concerned with the kind of food which is described utilizing the language of the end of the world, and the social relations, established through the use of food, between people in such environments, the fears about contemporary food fictionally shaped and expressed through science fiction movies etc. By examining scenes of food consumption in the chosen films, certain recurrent themes pertaining to ...

The paper analyzes a supposedly liberatory cultural practice, and argues that its designing „from above“, through non-governmental agencies' projects whose declarative aim is to help the Roma, actually petrifies their identity, reducing their entire cultural output to certain elements attractive to the dominant culture and traditionally recognized as „Roma“.

Over the last fifty years, members of the Roma minority have migrated to Western European countries for different reasons (economic, political and social reasons), and there is no official data on the precise number of Roma who have migrated abroad, whether permanently or temporarily. It is possible to establish a number of categories of Roma immigrants who reside permanently or temporarily in Western European countries. These are: the so-called “classic guest workers” who, through legal or illegal means went to work abroad in the 60’s and 70’s, and mostly settled permanently in the host countries; Roma refugees from Kosovo and/or asylum seekers who left the country during the wars in the 90’s, and who were returned to Serbia after the signing of the Readmission treaty; and those Roma who represent occasional economic migrants: people who, after ...

In these movies, there is a dualism of romantic and partner love, and these two types of love are there to help build a new world, or rebuild the destroyed society. These images of love emphasize the importance of evolutionist theories for the central ideas of these films – in post-apocalyptic scenarios love mostly serves the purpose of having or protecting progeny, it is represented as the key tool and mechanism of survival.

Different forms of sexual relations which occur in a post-apocalyptic setting are considered with regard to two types of communities/societies which emerge after the end of the world. These movies indicate how much the idea of an instinctual, natural, biological sexuality is widespread in popular imagination – in the post-apocaypse sex is represented as a motivational force on par with hunger.

U ovom radu ćemo se pozabaviti fenomenom mapa stereotipa i pripisanim predstavama o Srbiji u okviru političko-geo-grafskog prostora bivše SFRJ i Balkana. Ključne reči: mape stereotipa, et...
