I am known by many names, among them Empress of the Battlefield, Protector of Travelers, Queen of the Endless Forests, Waxbender, Den Mother of the Tumblr Witches, and Our Lady of the Wandering Wilds.
My witchlings call me Mama Bree.
My working name is Bree Landwalker, I am originally from Bucks County, PA, and I have been a practicing witch of the cottage variety since 2005. I currently reside in Williamsburg, VA.
My specialties include warding and banishing, the making of magical powders, herbal and garden magic, hearthcraft, dealing with dead people, and giving advice to beginner witches. While I do not claim to be an expert, part of my practice includes a great deal of research and I am more than happy to share what I have learned - and am still learning - with any practitioner of any stripe who wishes to have a chinwag over tea (or something a little stronger).
I believe that the influx of misinformation, cultural appropriation, exclusionist doctrine, ableism, racism, sexism, and rampant attitudes of disrespect toward others are much bigger problems for the pagan community at large than our portrayal in mass media. I believe in Christian witches, respect for all of my fellow pagans and practitioners (including Satanists, Luciferians, and Lokeans), and a witches’ right to curse. I do not personally follow the Wiccan Rede or the Rule of Three, but I respect the right of those who do to practice in their own way.
I believe that if you wish to see change, you should BE the change.
And I believe that my familiar just snuck a bite of my cheeseburger.
I like being a den mother, and I don’t mind answering questions. I only ask that you keep in mind that I work fulltime and don’t always have the mental cutlery to answer questions every day, and I also reserve the right to not answer questions that make me uncomfortable or that I do not have an answer for. If you need a question answered privately, please say so in your ask.
I don’t mind answering questions about specific types of witchery or a particular path or craft you’re interested in embarking on, but just “I’m a beginner, what do I do!?” doesn’t give me anything to go on and would take ages to cover, especially if you just want “general knowledge.” There are too many paths for there to be much that fits under that heading before you get into specialization.
Stuff I can tell you about in 250 words or less if given a specific question:
- Cottage Witchery (including green, kitchen, and hearth)
- Protection Magic (all barriers and wardings great and small)
- Herb Magic (if it grows, there’s a spell it can be used for)
- Candle Magic (light ‘em up up up and let it rip)
- Cursing (how to magically fuck up someone’s day)
- Community Issues (how NOT to be an asshole to your fellow pagans and handle conflict in a mature and intelligent fashion)
- Dealing With Dead People (including protection, banishment, and getting along with everyday shenanigans; please keep in mind that without visiting a site, I cannot determine what specifically might be going on)
- Gardening (basic mundane or magical, specializing in potted plants; also includes harvesting and how to dry herbs)
- Cooking (I’ve got plenty of lovely recipes I’m willing to share for holidays, social gatherings, or just “Today’s Entree”)
- Candlemaking (with jars and double-boilers; I haven’t done tapers and don’t have the equipment for it)
- LARPing (insomuch as it applies to my own experience and the company I run with; I know nothing about other companies)
- Feminism and Women’s Rights Issues (and why we are NOT out to kill, emasculate, oppress, or enslave all men)
Things I will not answer questions about:
- Divination (I’m don’t do it often and can’t give much advice)
- Godphones & Deity Readings (Not part of my practice; I can’t answer “Who’s trying to contact me?” or “How do I know this or that about X deity?”)
- Omens (I know what means something to me, but that’s it)
- Herbal Medicine (I know what works for me, but I am not a licensed herbalist and will always recommend that you see someone who is before taking any concoction or cure)
- Any Witchy or Religious Path Other Than Mine (If you want good info on anything besides secular Cottage Witchery, it’s best to ask someone who follows that particular path)
- “How to Be a Witch” (This is something you have to find out for yourself; I can only teach you how to use the tools available to you once you have a path and how to operate like a responsible adult within the community; broad or vague questions will likely be answered with book recommendations)
