Update?

temperature

I have read that an amateur meteorologist recorded an unofficial -29.2 deg. C. in Shropshire. Can't remember when - late seventies / early eighties I think. Mr Larrington (talk) 14:31, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Snow?

it does snow in the uk but not as much as amercia where i live the feb min is 1 C, but it hardly ever snows. we get loads of frost though. the met office snow page has records for snowfall in the uk but no mention of figures.--Weathereditor (talk) 16:00, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Rainfall

There are reservations about the listed value of 193 on the met office website, so that is why the other totals are lower, as not enough proof for the 155 and 180 has been provided. this is the nearest record and i agree that it should be this as you do but the page i cannot edit.--Weathereditor (talk) 16:04, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Potential temperature record

I think we should wait for the Met Office to declare it as offical rather than provsional before editing the article, but last Thursday, the Temperature may have reached 38.7°C in Cambridge. Unoriginal Generic Username (talk) 17:42, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

ever not correct

The article says "ever recorded in the United Kingdom" yet there was a hotter temperature in Southern Ireland when it was part of the United Kingdom - so ever is not correct i.e.

Ireland (then part of the  United Kingdom)	33.3 °C (91.9 °F)	Kilkenny Castle, County Kilkenny	26 June 1887[93]

So this should be added as this was part of the United Kingdom when it was a weather record.

2022 UK heatwave

Please stop adding the provisional Met Office figures. These are only provisional so far and are likely to increase even more throughout today. Once the Met Office has confirmed them, they can then be added to the page. DylanClarkWebb (talk) 12:29, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

I did the obvious thing and added the sourced provisional figure and marked it as provisional. This is the United Kingdom weather records article, so as long as each entry is appropriately sourced and described it can be included. It's not titled United Kingdom weather records that have been confirmed by the Met Office.----Pontificalibus

What do you think it says? The source is titled "Record breaking temperatures for the UK" and states "For the first time on record temperatures in the UK have exceeded 40°C" and "A provisional temperature of 40.3°C was recorded at Coningsby at 15:12 yesterday (19 July) which, if confirmed, will beat the previous record of 38.7°C set in 2019 by 1.5°C". There's nothing there that would support an argument not to update this article.----Pontificalibus 15:12, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

It a provisional record, as noted in this Wikipedia article. It is so widely reported as such by authoritative sources that it would be un-rigorous for this article not to mention it, while of course making it clear that it is provisional.----Pontificalibus 15:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

I have updated the article to include both sets of records. I think we should still have the confirmed records in the article while the new records await verification, because these provisional records still have a slight chance of not being confirmed. DarkHorse234 (talk) 21:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
