editSubstantivized feminine of ψυχιατρικός (psychiatrikós) < ψυχ- (psych-, “psych-”) + ιατρικός (iatrikós, “medical”). Learned borrowing from French psychiatrie, from psychiatre. See Ancient Greek ψυχή (psukhḗ, “soul”) + ἰατρεία (iatreía, “healing”), from ἰάομαι (iáomai, “to heal”).
