magenta
English
editEtymology
editBorrowed from French magenta, from Italian Magenta, sometime after the colour was named after the town to celebrate the Franco-Italian victory at the Battle of Magenta in 1859; possibly in reference to the colour of the uniforms worn by Zouave French troops there. The town's name derives from Latin castrum Maxentiae (“castle of Maxentius”).
