English & Arabic article
I was reading about “CAF Clubs of the 20th Century” article in English, and I noticed there is no Arabic translation to it. However, when I searched google for it I found already an Arabic article for it “نادي القرن الإفريقي” but it is not linked to the English article.
My questions is that can it be linked together? Sherif hady elmaghraby (talk) 03:32, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Line
How do I change line when writing a text? JackkBrown (talk) 11:36, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I guess you mean go to a new line. The easiest way is, when you're in the Edit screen, there are buttons you can click on for various formatting things. There's one that's a line with a right angle in it, and an arrow head on the left end. Click that, and you've got a new line. Uporządnicki (talk) 12:01, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- @AzseicsoK: the function you are referring to is for going back while editing. JackkBrown (talk) 12:40, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown: No, that's not what I'm talking about. You mean at the top of the whole window, the stuff common to any website you're on. This is something else. When you want to edit, click the "Edit" button. At the top of the edit BOX (not the whole window), there's a row of clickable functions. I've just now reminded myself that to get the one I'm talking about, you have to click on "Advanced." Then you get a second row of clickable functions. The button I'm talking about is (at least on my computers) the sixth one along--right about in the middle of the line. There's a very short VERTICAL line going down and turning left HORIZONTALLY. Then it ends in an arrow point. Click on that, and it inserts a <br> in your text, and moves down a line. Alternatively, you can also just type in <br>. If you then go to another line in the edit mode or don't, it still gives you a new line--although I find that the spacing is a little different with the two options. - I assume you mean line breaks? You have to press enter twice. If you press it only once there will be a line break in the source but not in the displayed text. - @AzseicsoK: the function you are referring to is for going back while editing. JackkBrown (talk) 12:40, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
I'm going to do some experimenting here, for people to see. At the end of this line, I will press Enter twice.
At the end of this line, I will provide a <br> and then continue on the same editing line (i.e., without clicking Enter).
At the end of this line, I will provide a <br) and then move down one editing line (i.e., I will click the Enter button.)
And now, I'm typing one more line so that we can see the result of that last move. By the way, if you click on that button or type <br>, the result is pretty much the same. The only difference is, if you click the button, it will automatically move to the next line on the edit window; if you type it in, it will not. Either way, if you want the other result, just change it right there. Uporządnicki (talk) 19:03, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- And now that I've done that, I see that--contrary to what I said before--using the button (or typing in <br>) gives the same result whether you follow it with Enter or not. And I also see that for most purposes--eg., just typing ordinary text and wanting a new paragraph--clicking Enter twice gives the result you would typically want. The <br> is useful for things like defining a line break in a table cell or a caption or some such thing; it avoids the awkward (in those cases) space that would separate paragraphs in ordinary text. Editing a Wikipage
When editing a company page, why is the company URL being blocked when this is a legitimate site? I am looking to add someone to the company page who has a Wiki page themselves, with a link back to the company leadership page to demonstrate it is authoritative. Also, why can you not remove or edits the names of products from the company since it would be misleading to keep old information on the page. Wenlake (talk) 13:53, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Wenlake: Hello Wenlake! It appears the link you are trying to add is on the spam blacklist which is designed to stop spammers who try to add their links to various articles because it would benefit them since Wikipedia receives a lot of web traffic. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:56, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- To answer your second question, Wenlake, Wikipedia is not a directory intended to give only current information about a company's products. An article about a company ought to cover that company's entire history, and it is often appropriate to include information about products that it no longer produces.
- Wikipedia is not interested in what a subject (such as a company) wants to say about itself, but only what unconnected commentators (such as reputable newspapers) say about it at some length, and without prompting by the subject (such as by Press releases). Only minor, uncontrovertial facts (such as the current CEO, etc.) should be cited to the company's own website or other company publications. Promotion of any kind is forbidden, and an article must demonstrate that the subject is Notable (in Wikipedia's meaning of the term). Mere existence does not merit an article.
- Frankly, I struggle to see from the current article (I presume we are talking about Preqin) what is notable about this company. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.205.101.197 (talk) 15:00, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

- Hello, DINFOSPA1357. Thank you for asking for this to be done, rather than attempting to do it yourself. Please note the following:
- While your request initiated the process, the article was moved because the sources do not use the suffix, not because Kennedy would like it that way. He does not own or control the article Kevin B. Kennedy.
- If he ever asks you to make any further changes to the article, you should make a formal declaration of your status as a paid editor (I assume your use of "my general" means that you are a service person under his command), and then request the changes on the talk page Talk:Kevin B. Kennedy using the edit request mechanism.
- I have tagged the article for lack of independent sources. A Wikipedia article should be based on reliable sources that are independent of the subject: not written, published, or commissioned, by the subject, or their employers or associates.

Hello, everyone. I have a problem with the mentioned page, as another user moved the cast section to the end of the article, as well uses «Character (Japanese name): Actor (Japanese name)» formula instead of typical «Actor as Character». He also adds a link to the list of the prequel series' characters to the plot section. I tried to resolve the issue here and here, but without result. Дейноніх (talk) 16:10, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

- Wikipedia articles usually have many authors, and this can be found by looking at the History tab at the top of the article page. However, Wikipedia articles are not intended to be cited as infallible, because it is the reliable sources that they contain which is what matters.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 16:25, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) If you mean the author of a Wikipedia article, there is rarely only one. Look at the revision history, that will list all contributors. More specifically, when looking at the article, click o n the "Cite this page" under "Tools" on the left hand side. It lists citation information and includes citation templates in the major styles. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:27, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- For references for a paper, what you want to use are the ones at the bottom of the article. You almost certainly don't want to use Wikipedia itself as a reference. Valereee (talk) 16:30, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
How come some images show up while hovering on some articles and on others they do not?
For example, when hovering over the article for a pencil, an image shows up near the text from the article. When hovering over the Capex Corporation article, the image on the article doesn't show up. Why is that? Casint (talk) 17:15, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Casint see mw:Extension:PageImages#Image choice. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:59, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Casint: mw:Extension:PageImages#Image choice is often the explanation but not for Capex Corporation which does have File:Capex Corporation logo.jpg as page image. See instead mw:Extension:Popups#Known problems. The uploaded file is too small so Popups rejects it. Popups can only show an image if it has been selected by PageImages but Popups rejects some small images which are accepted by PageImages. The size requirement is described unclearly. At mw:Topic:X24ym9nooumpgr1h I wrote more clearly what I think is the rule for the uploaded file: "width × height must be either at least 320 × 200 px or 203 × 250 px." Is a source credible if the underlying source is ...
If a statement is made on WP about an individual, and the reference provided is an article that is based on a report by that individual, is the reference valid? For example: "Spotts is ... [1]", but that link is based on [2] which has under it "SOURCE Woni Spotts". My thinking is the reference is invalid, but I want this confirmed. K.Nevelsteen (talk) 20:29, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I see the second source is affiliated with PR Newswire. I view that as a generally unreliable source. But it is not uncommon for respectable journalists to write about some company or individual, and in parallel, the company or individual arranges for coverage through PR Newswire. So how do you know the story by Amos Fofung is based on the PR Newswire story? Jc3s5h (talk) 20:53, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- If the article is based on or references the information at Newswire then, as far as I know, that does not influence how the article is treated. If it merely repeats the information (e.g. reprinting a press release) then it is different. The article at Newswire seems to be a press release and probably falls under WP:ABOUTSELF. Random person no 362478479 (talk) 21:09, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- @K.Nevelsteen It sounds to me that the reference you describe would not be independent of the subject of the article, or of the person being discussed. David10244 (talk) 11:02, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

There is a pornographic photo (red boots) on this page. While i am not offended this page is available to young children without any restrictions and might be a little confusing etc to them. Please remove the picture. - Are you referring to this?
- "The established consensus on the English Wikipedia is that templates used to mark "votes" during XfD discussions—such as a small image and text label, for example, " Keep" — are not to be used. Any template created solely for this purpose may be tagged with speedy deletion criterion G4.
- The rationale behind the consensus against these on the English Wikipedia is that they encourage voting rather than a discussion aimed at the generation of consensus. A contributing factor to the recurrence of discussions on this matter is the widespread use of these type of templates on other Wikimedia sites." (Source: Wikipedia:Voting templates).

Hello,
I made a new draft. about a French criminal case (User:Jeanne Angerie/sandbox - Wikipedia) and I'm not sure about my text. Can someone help me, please ?
You're sincerely,
Jeanne Angerie. Jeanne Angerie (talk) 17:22, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Jeanne Angerie: What exactly are you unsure about? I think this could be sent to AFC as-is – it could use some copyediting, it's not perfect English-wise, but it's certainly not awful. (Important note: sources come after punctuation, not before.) The article itself looks fairly solid, if a bit short. I'm not entirely sure it meets crime-related notability guidelines, but I've never been very sure where those start and end. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 23:22, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

- @Jeanne Angerie: I have done some work on the English of the article. The article is about recently deceased people so Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy applies. In particular, information in the first two paragraphs should be sourced inline, unless it is sourced in later sections. TSventon (talk) 10:24, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Jeanne Angerie Murder is, regrettably, a common crime. You have written about two specific victims but I don't see any evidence in the draft that the individuals themselves were notable, so WP:1E applies and the draft is likely to be declined, in my opinion. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:08, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- I understand. I will try to find what can I do with this draft. Because, on the French article, this murder takes an importante place in the news.
- Thanks for your reply. Jeanne Angerie (talk) 16:12, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Jeanne Angerie and Michael D. Turnbull:, WP:1E suggests that there should not be articles for the individuals involved, WP:EVENTCRITERIA are criteria for whether there should be an article about the event. I still don't see evidence that the event is notable in the draft. TSventon (talk) 16:27, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

- @Deni-Sonja done! In the future, you can WP:UNDO your own edit. I did it for you this time. Courtesy link: Paulette Jordan. Check out WP:TUTORIAL to learn how to edit Wikipedia. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 23:45, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Trying to do the right thing here...I have looked a bit in MOS for explicit guidance on what is disallowed in this situation and haven't yet happened upon the right section. I'd appreciate it if someone could provide a link, and also perhaps give their own opinion about whether I inadvertently overstepped the no-merchandising rule by adding mention of the new movie to the article intro. While I admit that I'm happy if people go see the film, my thought, again, was not to take advantage of the article to plug the movie; if anything, it was the other way around, to use the film, as it were, to plug the article: "Greg who...? Oh, yeah, the guy in that new movie that all the Jesus freaks are so excited about." – HelpMyUnbelief (talk) 01:20, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Mentioning that he was the subject of a movie in the lede seems perfectly reasonable to me. Not necessary, but surely reasonable. Random person no 362478479 (talk) 01:39, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
How to get semi protection
I don't know how to get semi protection with a confirmed account can you help? Ben Dover 23 (talk) 04:10, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Ben Dover 23. Pages can only be protected by a Wikipedia administrator, and this typically only done when there's some serious ongoing disruption of the page that needs to be addressed. Page protection tends to be a "last resort" type of action taken by administrators when other attempts to end the disruption have been unsuccessful. You can find out more about this at Wikipedia:Protection policy. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:57, 3 April 2023
- You can ask for it at WP:RFPP. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:40, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
I failed to get ref. number 25 correctly done. Please repair. Thank you. 58.179.137.31 (talk) 08:31, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- IP editor. The only error I could see was in a book citation. I fixed it with this edit. Mike Turnbull (talk) 08:36, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Sorry. I have added a file from commons. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Norwich-_Octagon_Chapel_%28geograph_3236803%29.jpg
It is correct but far toooooo big! Underneath the photo it should read: Norwich's Octagon Chapel and adjacent Martineau Memorial Hall (right)
- Seems this has been Fixed. Eagleash (talk) 10:39, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

In the bibliography section - there is a new commons pic - I think it should not be in this bibliography section - but I have failed to place it in the section above. Please fix. Sorry again, 175.38.42.62 (talk) 12:42, 3 April 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 175.38.42.62 (talk)

Links in Navboxes
Can navboxes include links to article sections, or do they have to be links to actual articles? Cambalachero (talk) 16:50, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Cambalachero: Section links are OK in most navboxes but there should generally only be one link to each article. Don't use a navbox to create an index to a list article. Pipe section links like
[[Article name#Section name|Link text]]
. Don't use {{Section link}} in navboxes. Sometimes there is a redirect to the section and it may be better to link the redirect in case it's converted to an article later. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:14, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
How to Seek Guidance From WikiProject on Organizations
Hello, an article I revised was given a C-Class rating (low quality) by the WikiProject on Organizations. It's possible the article was assigned the rating before my revision was completed. Unsure. How can I communicate with this group? Thank you for your help in this matter. PatriciaBishop (talk) 17:36, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Courtesy link: National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment
- You can just revise the ratings based on that WikiProject Organizations importance scale and their quality scale. You don't need to be a part of a WikiProject it to help it. PalauanReich (talk) 17:50, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Many thanks, @PalauanReich. PatriciaBishop (talk) 19:22, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- @PatriciaBishop: To answer your specific question, you can "communicate with the group" at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Organizations. You might choose to do this if you prefer not to change the rating yourself since you did the work, or you may change the rating and then use that page to ask if other editors agree with you. -Arch dude (talk) 18:01, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for these specifics. Most helpful. PatriciaBishop (talk) 19:24, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Is ITV news a reliable source?
Can I cite to www.itv.com/news as a source; is it reliable? 81.155.227.238 (talk) 18:35, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- As a source for the sort of things TV news broadcasters generally report on, probably. Though 'reliability' can only really be assessed when looking at particulars: what exactly being cited, and what proposed Wikipedia content is it being cited for. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:44, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Help in submitting page below to wikipedia

- Courtesy link: Draft:Elijah Green - 199.208.172.35 (talk) 18:54, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- The biggest problem here is probably that most of the new version of the draft - along with that photo to the right - seems to consist of potential copyright violations. Also: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elijah Green. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 19:04, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback. These are public articles on a celebrity player. No different that any professional athletes' page? Haroldk1234 (talk) 19:05, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- You appear to have copy/pasted directly from your sources. That's the problem. You need to summarize in your own words, then cite. Also, you uploaded this photo as your own work. Did you take the picture? The metadata says it was taken by Amanda Bowen, copyright: 2023 Washington Nationals. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 19:09, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
