NFL Top 100

[edit]

Hi Jrooster49. I've started a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Football_League#NFL_Top_100_in_prose about whether the Top 100 rankings should be in articles. You input is welcome. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 02:09, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

PFWA All-Rookie Team

[edit]

My plan is to list only the past 5 teams (2012–2016) for the sake of size, but if you want to add more feel free. Looks like the PFWA's All-Rookie teams go all the way back to 1970, but they've really only become widely recognized in the past decade. Lizard (talk) 21:43, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I was thinking of just going up to 2010 since that's what one of the articles in the External links goes up to so I think that that can be the stopping point. But I agree that if we were to go all the way back to 1970 it would be way to large of an article and people probably don't care that much about rookies from the 70s, and if they do they just look at the articles you put in the external links. Also I love that you created this page, I've been slowly adding the link into the players highlights in the infobox so props to you on that. Jrooster49 (talk) 21:58, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's not that big a deal, but when you add the links in infoboxes try to place them below all other NFL awards but above annual stats leader highlights. Like it is on Ezekiel Elliott. I've been working on a standard of listing infobox highlights by a hybrid of perceived importance and reverse chronological order. Basically: championships->pro bowls->all-pros->MVPs->other awards->rookie awards->annual stats leaders->college highlights. Lizard (talk) 14:40, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jrooster49.

I noticed you've done some constructive editing recently.
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. 2018 NFL UDFA's.

[edit]

Do I add 2018 NFL undrafted free agents to the roster or should I wait and if wait, when do I add them. PhoenixRancor (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:59, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the reports that come in aren't always true. I would wait until official word from the team with the confirmed signings. Also some of the reports aren't always signings, they sometimes are just camp invites. Just wait until it's official from the team.Jrooster49 (talk) 02:36, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Alright one more question, what if the player announces they have been signed as a UDFA? PhoenixRancor (talk) 07:50, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man, need some help with the Cardinals roster.

[edit]

The Arizona Cardinals officially released the UDFA's so... I added them, but it completely broke the roster and after me checking I couldn't figure it out, I was wondering if you could lend me a hand. PhoenixRancor (talk) 4:23, May 1 2018 (UTC)

So I just read the article from the Cardinals website about the 24 UDFAs and verified it on the roster page, with the addition of the 24 players, it brings their roster total to 99 including the draft picks. "Including the draft class, the Cards will have 99 total players for their roster, although until the undrafted players sign contracts, they do not count against the offseason 90-man limit. Those rookies must also still pass physicals before getting their contracts." [1]
My guess is the template does not allow for more than 90 players to be listed. Might have to wait on this one until the Cardinals release 9 players. Thanks for bringing this up, this is an interesting situation.Jrooster49 (talk) 04:31, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Alright appreciate your help, thanks. Once the 90 man roster hits, i'll get on it. PhoenixRancor (talk) 7:27, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

High School parameter

[edit]

Hey please make sure you are using the new consensus for how high schools are displayed in the high school. The discussion took place a earlier this year on the NFL project talk page. For schools where the city is a part of the name it should be (using Bengals draft pick Davontae Harris as an example) it should be Wichita South (KS). When the city isn't part of the school name (using Malik Reaves as an example) it should be Fletcher (Neptune Beach, FL). I noticed you are still using the old way even after me reverting one of your edits making it the old way. Thank you.--Rockchalk717 05:40, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I wasn't aware of the change.Jrooster49 (talk) 17:24, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Stalking

[edit]

I'm seriously not going to tell you again. Stop stalking my edits. Worry about yourself. You really need to back off and find somebody else to worry about. I'm not going to keep asking you nicely. Toeknee44 (talk) 13:07, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not joking Jason. You really need to get a life and worry about your own shit. I'm really tired of you constantly going through my stuff to find minor errors. GO GET A GIRLFRIEND. GO GET A HOBBY. GO FIND SOMEBODY ELSE TO HARASS. Toeknee44 (talk) 13:08, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alright dude there is no reason for you to be getting upset about this. Just relax, I’ll take it down a notch, as long as you do the same. I’m not trying to harass in any way, I don’t think this should be taken as harassment but if you see it that way, I’ll lay off. But you’ve kind of developed a reputation of making reference and spelling errors on your edits. Your content is really good, it just seems someone needs to go through and clean it up sometimes, there’s no shame in that, that’s what this site is about. I thought I was helping by fixing those errors, and I thought it was a good tag team we had, but you think differently so I’ll lay off a bit. Just when you’re done, just double check and proofread your work, it looks bad on Wikipedia’s part.

PS, quit with the name calling and verbal abuse, completely unnecessary. And you’re calling me a stalker, when you’re the one calling me by my first name, something that is not listed on this site, so what’s up with that? Jrooster49 (talk) 15:27, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm calling you a stalker cause you've been constantly going through my edits for YEARS! I've developed a reputation for spelling errors? Compare you edits to mine... My edits are huge so one small spelling errors is expected. You're checking every single page I do. Did I start following your edits first? Nope. Did I start double checking your contributions? Nope. Did I ask you multiple times to stop hounding me? Yes. Did you stop? No. WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF. And if you read closely I didn't call you a single name besides Jason. If some random stranger begins following your contributions you would want to know who it is too. Toeknee44 (talk) 12:14, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And I didn't verbally abuse you at all or name you. I've asked you multiple times over a few years to stop so stop acting obvious like this is coming out of nowhere. This has been brought up multiple times. You've followed my edits for years now and if you read the policy on contribution use thats not allowed. I don't mind if you edit a page after me. I do mind when you're constantly going through my edits on a daily basis and checking on every page I've edited. When there isn't a spelling error you are going through every reference and changing anything you can possible. Moving a photo or just capatilizing or changing a title. Please. Go find something else to do. Wikipedia has a section on this type of behavior and it's called hounding. I didn't call you a name in this entry or verbally abuse you. I told you to find a hobby and go away. Just do anything but hound my edits on a daily basis. Toeknee44 (talk) 12:22, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

FOR YEARS?! The first time you accused me was in January, get your facts straight before you try to use that excuse multiple times. "My edits are huge so one small spelling errors is expected", NO SPELLING ERRORS SHOULD BE EXPECTED. This is supposed to be a professional website with no errors, no reason and no excuses for any errors. You're acting like you're all high and mighty with your edits, and that my edits don't matter. I handle the transactions that happen around the league, both on the roster pages and the player pages, tell me how that doesn't matter. And I've complimented you several times on your edits, the work you do is very very good, it just needs a little clean up afterwards because of the volume of the content you provide. I was providing you with a service so this website does not look bad with the reference errors and the spelling errors. And just to clarify, I don't go through every reference you provide, I've never done that. The reference errors are displayed in the References section at the bottom of each page in red, I don't go through and check each one, that's just ridiculous. I want this feud to end, it's just ridiculous, we are both contributors to this site and should not be arguing. Jrooster49 (talk) 00:30, 1 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Stop deleting entries from other people

[edit]

THIS IS THE THIRD MESSAGE YOU ARE RECIEIVING FOR THIS SAME PROBLEMTecmo (talk) 21:31, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I edit your edits because 1. This is Wikipedia, everyone has the right to edit what they please, and 2. The information you provide is not relevant to the players page and is unsourced. You unnecessarily undo my edits and obviously did so out of spite, like you did today with Blake Countess and Justin Tucker, which was then reverted by Yankees10 (thank you for that). And threatening to block me for no reason is a bad move. You have no case and I've done nothing wrong, you are just salty for absolutely no reason. Knock it off or I'll report you. STOP! (I can use all caps too) Jrooster49 (talk) 00:30, 1 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You delete information from everybody and that is not the spirit of Wikipedia, even if that information is important to explain the context of each transaction or even if it explains exactly what you replace it with, but you still delete it because it was done by somebody else. Please raise the report, let's see how confident you are, when we have someone to mediate the way you delete information. I know I'm not the only one with this opinion of you.Tecmo (talk) 00:38, 1 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

You really shouldn't feel the need to replace my refs, from a third party source, to a ref that you might just like better. I found that ref on Jermaine Whitehead and put it in there for a reason, and your ref changing is unnecessary. Realize that maybe, just maybe, other editors know what they are doing. Sorry about that, it's just a year or so back I got called out for using NFL Trade Rumors as a source for some of my edits as it was deemed not a reliable source (I personally don't believe that, they've never steered me wrong), so that's why I changed the source to Packers.com. I didn't change it because I wanted too, I'm just doing what I was told from years past. It's nothing against you.Jrooster49 (talk) 13:30, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification, this is my third year going using NFLTR and I’ve never heard anything bad about it. People think it’s bad because it has “rumors” in the name, but everything is sourced well and timely, too. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Active/PUP and Active/NF-Inj/Ill.

[edit]

Saw your revert on Template:New England Patriots roster. I partly agree with you, but these players should still be denoted as being on those lists somehow. We've been putting those players in the "reserve list" column for at least the last 10 years, but it's probably worth a discussion for a better solution. Eagles 24/7 (C) 01:05, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to interrupt but I saw both of your edits and I partly agree also with Eagles 247. They've been put in the reserve lists for over ten years but agree that there has to be some sort of consensus on this. Cheers, Raimund123 (talk) 01:12, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I also partly agree with both of you. I was hesitant to remove them from the reserves, as they are not technically "reserves". They count against the active roster through training camp and preseason, then if they are not activated by cutdown day are then placed on reserve/PUP/NFI, at which point they are moved to the reserve lists on the roster pages. Not the move is even necessary. However if we need to have them differentiated from the rest of the roster then we could come up with something. I was pondering the idea of leaving them on the active roster and then give them the PUP, NF-Inj./Ill. notations there instead of moving them to reserve. Definitely open for discussion. Thanks for bringing this up.Jrooster49 (talk) 21:30, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I created a good solution for this issue within Template:NFL roster. When |offseason=yes the section will be called "Active/Reserve lists" and when |offseason=no the section will remain "Reserve lists". Please let me know your thoughts. Eagles 24/7 (C) 12:21, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Works for me. Raimund123 (talk) 14:41, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Update on Cardinals roster:

[edit]

Patrick Peterson was suspended for 6 weeks so I put him in the reserve list like some other teams have. But you removed him. May I ask why? Also Cardinals reporter Darren Urban said that the cardinals had 89 active members, so why did you make it 90? PhoenixRancor (talk) 7:33, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

@PhoenixRancor: Peterson’s suspension does not begin until week 1, he’s on the team’s active roster until then. [2] Eagles 24/7 (C) 11:12, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Eagles247: Ah okay, well according to the same person there is only 89 active members. So I was still questioning why it keeps getting changed. PhoenixRancor (talk) 3:19, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
@PhoenixRancor: I counted 89 on the template, so I'm changing it back. Eagles 24/7 (C) 16:24, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you seemed knowledgeable on NFL articles so I was wondering if you could look at this article I just created - Jakob Johnson. There is an issue with the Infoxbox and I'm pretty sure it stems from the fact that I didn't put anything in for "| nflnew = ". Would you mind taking a look at the issue and fixing it? Thanks. I have no idea what I "|nflnew" means. Jetrex3 (talk) 01:49, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out! The issue was you forgot the second "]" for Stuttgart, Germany. I also made some minor tweaks like disambiguating fullback. nflnew is the link to the players NFL.com page. In the url of the page, you just copy the playersname/######## and paste it in. Jrooster49 (talk) 01:53, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Practice squad counts

[edit]

I've noticed you exclude PS/I players from the practice squad counts on NFL roster templates, and I'm not sure why that is. They are still members of the PS, they just can't practice with the team. Eagles 24/7 (C) 02:47, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I've seen a lot of debate about this designation this year. It's a bit of a gray area, last year I counted it, this year I decided not to. Thinking about it now, I guess it makes sense to include them. Thanks for letting me know. Jrooster49 (talk) 02:52, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Trayvon Henderson

[edit]

Hello, Jrooster49,

Thank you for creating Trayvon Henderson.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Is there any coverage of him from college in Hawaiian outlets? Any coverage from high school? Some significant coverage and depth beyond transactions would make the page pop a little more.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Willsome429}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Futures contracts

[edit]

Shouldn't Joshua Garnett and Cole Herdman have been signed to futures contracts? I know they weren't announced as such, but since they didn't finish the 2019 season on an active roster and the new league year hasn't started yet, I don't believe they're eligible for active contracts yet. Eagles 24/7 (C) 13:44, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good question that I was wondering myself. I don't have an exact answer, but maybe because the season is officially over, the contracts are no longer reserve/future. Like you said the contracts weren't announced as future, so I'm just going to assume they're regular contracts, unless stated otherwise. Jrooster49 (talk) 16:20, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm good with that. And of course, the NFL.com transactions page has been down for a couple weeks so we can't use that for confirmation. Eagles 24/7 (C) 16:37, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Here's our answer: https://twitter.com/HBalzer721/status/1225467604023873538 Eagles 24/7 (C) 18:08, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well alrighty then. I guess we should move the futures guys to the active roster then. I always did it just before the league year started, but they're gonna be moved eventually so we could just do it now.Jrooster49 (talk) 18:21, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Who is the remaining unsigned draft pick at Template:New York Jets roster? Eagles 24/7 (C) 15:10, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chargers and Dolphins roster templates

[edit]

The Chargers and Dolphins fonts are black and not white, they didn't change their teams font color this off-season so I don't know why the font is black. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Falcaholic (talkcontribs) 21:13, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Falcaholic: Hi, this has to do with WP:ACCESSIBILITY, as some readers are color-blind and may have difficulties viewing white fonts over certain colored backgrounds. There was a discussion about this issue here, and while I'm still not completely satisfied with the outcomes, there is still progress to be made on this front. Hi, per MOS:DATECOMMA, when a full date (e.g. "October 3, 2020") is used in the middle of a sentence, a comma is needed after the year. So a sentence would look like Reed was placed on injured reserve on October 3, 2020, with an arm injury. instead of Reed was placed on injured reserve on October 3, 2020 with an arm injury. Thanks! 2014 Pro Bowl Selection

[edit]

Someone has put that Joe Flacco and others made the Pro Bowl in 2014 even though they did not play. However, I was under the impression that if a player did not except a pro bowl invitation, than the pro bowl selection did not count. Can you clarify this for me?ChessEric (talk · contribs) 23:45, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If a player was selected to the initial Pro Bowl roster, but they opt out of the game, the Pro Bowl counts for them. If it was reported that a player was asked to take the place of someone at the Pro Bowl and they turned it down, that does NOT count as a Pro Bowl selection. At least that is my understanding. Hopefully that answers your question. Jrooster49 (talk) 04:35, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is what I believe happened with Flacco in 2014 as the article said he was chosen as an alternate, although I could be mistaken.ChessEric (talk · contribs) 14:39, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Curtis Riley (IR?)

[edit]

I saw that you put Curtis Riley back on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but I don’t see any reliable source of him being brought back to the team and being placed on injured reserve. The only thing I saw was him being released from the team with an injury designation. ReaganHoang10 (talk) 02:38, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When a player clears waivers after being waived with an injury designation, that player reverts to injured reserve. It was reported by a couple insiders that he did revert to IR, so that's why he's on injured reserve. Jrooster49 (talk) 03:04, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This no longer matters but I might as well still document this. The count of 17 was coming from the team's website where they still list Wes Martin on the practice squad. Jody Fortson

[edit]

Fortson was indeed placed on Reserve/COVID-19 per this. A player on IR that tests positive is placed on Reserve/COVID-19 and stays on the list until their quarantine is over. Once their quarantine is over, then they can resume treatment at the team facility.

Additionally, please provide an edit summary for reverts per WP:REVEXP. You should always provide an edit summary, which is something you rarely do, but it's even more important for reverts.--Rockchalk717 02:54, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Futures contracts

[edit]

In the past have only done this in the Chiefs roster templates but I did it on all of them this year. Players signed to futures contracts are not officially on the active roster until the start of the new league year. Please stop moving them to the active roster until 4 pm eastern time on the 16th.--Rockchalk717 06:07, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware they're not official til Wednesday, but there is going to be a lot of edits happening over the next week and the future contracts is a big lift. I was getting ahead of it before the storm hits because it really does not matter whether they are in the reserves or active roster at this point in the year. Readers don't care about the status of future deals, they're going to be on the active roster anyways, so why not get ahead of it. It's different for future deals than trades becoming official because the contracts are already signed. Future deals not counting toward the active roster really shouldn't matter this deep in the offseason in the first place. If you feel the need to revert and wanna create more work for yourself in a smaller window of time, by all means. Jrooster49 (talk) 16:45, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Rockchalk717: I'm a little late to this, but I discovered two offseasons ago that futures contracts actually move to active rosters starting the day after the Super Bowl. The official NFL transactions wire lists new contracts under "Free agent signings" during the post-Super Bowl/pre-new league year period. Wish I could find the wires easily, but my diff editing the Eagles' roster template is based on reading the wire or seeing tweets from people with access to it. Removing workout information

[edit]

Hi Jrooster49. I have also been removing workouts and stuff of that similar nature from NFL player pages so I was wondering if there was any consensus ruling on that that you may also be following to deem them worthy of being removed. I asked in regards to concerns left for me here. Thanks! Thetreesarespeakingtome (talk) 14:22, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I typically don't put in workouts on pages. There's a chance that player doesn't sign with that team, so why would the reader care about a workout with the Lions and then they sign with the Steelers. If that happens then I may delete that info, but if there's a workout, then they sign with said team, then I'll probably leave it in and maybe reword it. I never add that info, but if someone already put it in there with a decent source, then I'll leave it. Thanks for reaching out! Jrooster49 (talk) 19:44, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to understand why we're adding the note about Peterman "beating out PJ Walker" for the spot. Roster updates

[edit]

Hi Jrooster49. I noticed some of your edits such as this one. If I remember correctly, these players are becoming free agents due to their practice squad contracts expiring? If so, I think you ought to explain that in the article prose, as otherwise the reader will see the most recent update being someone signed to the practice squad whereas the lead states they are a free agent, which is confusing. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:26, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

What's your stance on including a hyperlink for a team that signed a player who faced said team in the previous season? (Tommy Townsend and the Texans, for example.)

I've seen pages take out the hyperlink on the newer entries about the team, so I've followed suit. ParXivalRPT (talk) 03:14, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Don't really have much of an opinion. I added it in because that's what I usually do if the player hasn't played with said team, I didn't see the link already when he played against him. I'm not too particular on linking vs not linking. Jrooster49 (talk) 03:21, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Future reference for myself

[edit]

When it comes to players officially announced as free agents that weren't resigned, etc., is that not something to list in their bio?

The way I see it, it feels weird when a player gets an entry added regarding their move to another team without any explanation of what happened. I know nine out of ten times, that's how a Wiki article is set up, but if I see that the team essentially released them and another team signed that player while they were a free agent on the previous team, it's more cohesive.

I'm probably looking too much into this, but I would think that a player's contract coming to term would constitute a blurb about it on their page. ParXivalRPT (talk) 04:47, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I did this for Josh Dobbs and a few other players, so i'd rather save you the time in having to find those entries and removing them if they're not necessary ParXivalRPT (talk) 04:48, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Uniform number

[edit]

Hi Jrooster49. When you have time, please let me know if you use a certain reference for players getting a new number. I only ask, because I was always saving time from going to several sites, rumors etc. and went straight to the team site. That's the only reason I reverted Chase Young. Saints.com still has him with no number and Saunders with #99. Honestly, it will save me from looking like a complete idiot when I revert an IP for one reason, and then I get reverted, lol. Thanks in advance. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:18, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
