    From Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰuHtás (become, been), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰuH-tó-s, past participle of *bʰuH- (to be). Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬏𐬙𐬀 (būta, become, been), Old Irish both (been), Ancient Greek φῠτός (phutós), Lithuanian būtas. The Sanskrit root is भू (bhū).
