NARRATOR Hansel and Gretel lived in the forest in a tiny cottage with their poor
father, who was a woodcutter, and their evil stepmother. ( Hansel and

NARRADOR Hansel y Gretel vivían en el bosque en una pequeña cabaña con su padre,

IN THE COTTAGE / EN LA CABAÑA

STEPMOTHER Now that the children are sleeping, I have to talk to you. ( nau dat de

STEPMOTHER We don't have enough food to feed the children. Tomorrow morning
we will take them into the deep woods and will leave them there. ( wi

MADRASTRA No tenemos suficiente comida para alimentar a los niños. Mañana por la
mañana los llevaremos al interior del bosque y allí los dejaremos.
FATHER I will not do that to my own children! Do you think that I will leave

PADRE ¡No voy a hacer eso con mis propios hijos!.¿Crees acaso que los voy a

NARRATOR She insisted so much in that idea that the woodcutter finally agreed.
But Hansel and Gretel were not sleeping; they were listening to the

NARRATOR Next morning, when they went into the forest, their stepmother gave

NARRADOR A la mañana siguiente, cuando ingresaron en el bosque, su madrastra le
dio a cada uno un trozo de pan.
IN THE DEEP FOREST / EN LA ESPESURA DEL BOSQUE
STEPMOTHER Don't eat this bread before lunch, because this is all you are going to

MADRASTRA No coman este pan antes del almuerzo porque esto es todo lo que comerán
en el día de hoy.
HANSEL / GRETEL We won't. ( wi wont)
HANSEL / GRETEL No lo haremos.
NARRATOR While they were walking, Hansel was leaving trail of breadcrumbs in
order to find their way back home. And when they reached the deep
forest, their stepmother said to them: ( wail dei wer wokin, Hansel was

NARRADOR Mientras caminaban Hansel iba arrojando miguitas de pan para encontrar
luego su camino de regreso a la cabaña. Y cuando llegaron a la espesura
del bosque su madrastra les dijo:

STEPMOTHER Stay here until we come to pick you up. ( stei jier ontil wi cam tu pikiu
ap.)
MADRASTRA Quédense aquí hasta que vengamos a buscarlos.
NARRATOR Hansel and Gretel did as they were told, but then night came. ( Hansel
and Gretel did as dei wer tould, bat den nait keim.)
NARRADOR Hansel y Gretel cumplieron lo que se les había indicado pero se hizo de
noche.

HANSEL Come on Gretel, it's time to find our way home. ( caman Gretel, is taim

HANSEL Vamos Gretel, es hora de encontrar nuestro camino a casa.
GRETEL I'll help you find the breadcrumbs. ( ail jelpiu faind de bredcrombs)
GRETEL Te ayudaré a encontrar las miguitas de pan.
HANSEL I can't find any! ( ai kent faindeni !)
HANSEL ¡No encuentro ninguna!
GRETEL I knew it! The animals ate them! Now what are we going to do? ( ai nu

NARRATOR They stayed in the cave for a few days without eating, until they finally
decided to go out and find some food to eat. So they walked deeper into
the forest when suddenly they saw something in the distance. ( dei steid

en el bosque hasta que, de pronto, observaron algo a lo lejos.

GRETEL ¿Qué es eso por allí?

HANSEL Parece una casa pequeña.

HANSEL This house is weird. Look Gretel! It's all made up of chocolate, cookies,

NARRATOR The two brothers stayed with the witch but Hansel knew deep inside

NARRATOR The witch was hiding behind the door listening to every word they said.

GRETEL / HANSEL In the oven? ... It´s too small! ( in de ouven? … is sou smol!)
GRETEL / HANSEL ¿En el horno? ... ¡Es demasiado pequeño!
WITCH Of course not, even I fit in it ... look! ( of cors nat, iven ai fit in … luk!)
BRUJA Por supuesto que no, hasta yo entro en él ... ¡miren!
NARRATOR Then the witch got inside the oven and quickly they shut the door,
leaving her locked inside. ( den de wich gat insaid di ouven and qwikli

NARRADOR Entonces la bruja se metió en el horno y rápidamente ellos le cerraron la
puerta, dejándola encerrada allí adentro.

HANSEL Come on ... run!! ... run!! ( camon … ron!! … !!)

HANSEL Vamos ... ¡¡huyamos!! ... ¡¡huyamos!!
NARRATOR They ran outside the house as fast as they could. They walked for two
days until they reached their old house. ( dei ran autsaid de jaus as fast

NARRADOR Salieron corriendo de la casa con todas sus fuerzas. Caminaron durante
dos días hasta llegar a su vieja cabaña.

HANSEL ¡Finalmente llegamos a casa!
NARRATOR They knocked at the door and their father opened it. ( dei nokt at de

NARRADOR Golpearon la puerta y su padre la abrió.

FATHER My dear children! Mai dier children! )

PADRE ¡Mis hijos queridos!
HANSEL / GRETEL (hugging) Father!!! ( joguin) fader !!!
HANSEL / GRETEL (abrazándose) ¡¡¡Papá!!!
FATHER My wife died and all this time I have been thinking of you. ( mai waif

PADRE Mi esposa murió y pasé todo el tiempo pensando en ustedes.
HANSEL We missed you! ( wi mistiu! )
HANSEL ¡Te extrañábamos!
GRETEL We suffered a lot but we learned to survive by ourselves. ( wi soferd

GRETEL Sufrimos mucho pero aprendimos a sobrevivir por nuestros propios
medios.
FATHER Please forgive me! ( plis forguiv mi)
