This year I am working in a classroom with children of all ages from kindergarten and primary school in the early
mornings, they are the group of early risers. To pass the time we do everything: games, dances, arts and crafts, etc. I
proposed them to participate in this contest with the magic wands craft. The students were very enthusiastic about the
project, they took photos, wrote parts of the tutorial, and even edited the images for the cover! But above all they made
the wands. Here is our tutorial:
Today we will teach you how to make magic wands. This activity is sensory, creative and amazing for children. We have
participated children from 4 to 12 years old, we liked it very much. In addition, this activity also serves to play games with
the wands, magic tricks and develop their imagination with them.
Este año estoy trabajando en un aula con niños de Infantil y primaria de todas las edades por las mañanas muy
temprano, son el grupo de madrugadores. Para pasar el rato hacemos de todo: juegos, bailes, manualidades, etc. Los
propuse participar en este concurso con la manualidad de las varitas mágicas. Los alumnos se volcaron con el proyecto,
ellos han hecho fotos, han escrito partes del tutorial, hasta han editado las imágenes de la portada! Pero sobretodo han
hecho las varitas. Aquí os dejamos nuestro tutorial:
Hoy os enseñaremos a hacer varitas mágicas. Esta actividad es sensorial, creativa y alucinante para los niños. Hemos
participado niños desde 4 hasta 12 años, a nosotros nos gustó mucho. Además esta actividad sirve también para hacer
juegos con las varitas, trucos de mágia y desarrollar con ellos la imaginación.
Supplies:
Chopsticks or tree branches

Air-drying molding paste
White glue
Toilet paper
Brushes
Paint
Palillos chinos o ramas de árbol

Pasta moldeable de secado al aire
Cola blanca
Papel higiénico
Pinceles
Pintura

Step 1: Base
Coat the chopstick with a little dough, leaving the bottom part thicker and the top part thinner.
Hay que recubrir el palillo chino con un poco de pasta, dejando la parte de abajo más gruesa y la de arriba más na.

Step 2: Details
Now we have to make the details, the shape of the wand. There are several ways to do it: with balls, with spirals, like a
melted candle, with balls and spirals together, etc., this is a part where the children have to bring out their creativity. You
can show pictures of wands to give them ideas.
Ahora hay que hacer los detalles, la forma de la varita. Hay varias formas de hacerlo: con bolitas, con espirales, como una
vela derretida, con bolitas y espirales juntas, etc., esta es una parte en la que los niños tienen que sacar su creatividad. Se
pueden mostrar imágenes de varitas para darles ideas.

Step 3: Let Dry
Let it dry for a few hours or until the next day so that the dough becomes hard.
Dejar secar unas horas o hasta el día siguiente para que la pasta se ponga dura.
Step 4: Base for Paint
When they are hard we can leave them like that or improve them a little more.
Mix equal parts of white glue and water, dip pieces of toilet paper in the mixture and stick them to the wand until it is
completely covered.
Let it dry again. This step is done to have a white base to paint and to give texture.
Cuando estén duras podemos dejarlas así o mejorarlas un poco más.

Mezclamos cola blanca y agua a partes iguales, vamos mojando trozos de papel higiénico en la mezcla y los vamos
pegando a la varita hasta cubrirla entera.
Volvemos a dejar secar. Este paso se hace para tener una base blanca para pintar y para dar textura.

Step 5: Paint
After the wands have dried, we painted them with acrylic paint. Usually the wands are brown, gray, black or white, but
we did it in the most creative way. Let it dry.
Después de que las varitas se hayan secado, las pintamos con pintura acrílica. Normalmente las varitas son marrones,
grises, negras o blancas, pero lo hicimos de la manera más creativa. Dejar secar.

Step 6: Final Details
Finally with white, black, silver and gold markers we gave it the nal touches. Dots, lines, spirals, everything we could
think of. And this is as far as our craft goes, they can now use their wand to do magic tricks, games, role-playing games in
which everyone has their own power and are magicians. There are endless possibilities for children's imagination and

Finalmente con rotuladores blanco, negro, plateado y dorado le dimos los toques nales. Puntos, líneas, espirales, todo lo
que se nos ocurría. Y hasta aquí llega nuestra manualidad, ya pueden usar su varita para hacer trucos de mágia, juegos,
juegos de rol en los que cada uno tiene su poder y son magos. Hay posibilidades in nitas para la imaginación y
