A survey was conducted using the geographic location data of venture capital and private equity fund managers and investee companies who were part of the Second PE/VC Census (ABDI & FGV, 2011). The database contained 144 PE/VC fund managers and 481 investee companies by the year 2010. Distances between managers and investees of 63% of the database or 50% of the total number of firms in the Brazilian PE/VC industry were randomly obtained and analysed. Results indicate regional equity gaps and inequality of the spatial distribution of the Venture Capital industry in Brazil.

The main hypothesis is that the MNCs try to influence the States and their coalitions, nationally and transnationally, through its structural power as well as its soft power. The defense of their corporate interests depends on the confluence of their interests with those of the states as well as the state’s vulnerabilities to the corporations activities. Moreover, the MNCs should be able to influence the strongest state’s coalition in the multilateral process of negotiation. In the first part of the paper I present the theoretical framework related to the Complex Interdependence Theory and the three level chessboard of Nye since its allows us to understand the MNCs preferences as independent of those of the states. I recognize the limitations of the MNCs’ influence power through an extension of the Frieden-Rogowsky model, where I pro...

This study focuses on what motivates entrepreneurs to crowdfund in Germany. The study researched the motivation of 11 entrepreneurs to use German equity crowdfunding platforms. This study uses a research approach novel in the field of venture financing, the means-end approach. One of the findings is that entrepreneurs use equity crowdfunding to successfully collect funds from rather emotionally investing crowdinvestors to finance their ventures' future growth and to signal investment viability to follow-up investors. Crowdfunding also allows entrepreneurs to keep decision-making power over the venture better than by using traditional sources of funding. The findings indicate that crowdfunding attracts entrepreneurs who could not secure funding from other sources of capital as well as entrepreneurs who see the additional benefits it can provide over other sources.
