Giacomo Caruso
Giacomo Caruso was educated in Liguria, Italy, and earned his BA in Geography at the University of Genoa, with a fieldwork research on Ecovillages in Europe. This led his curiosity towards further studies in Anthropology at the University of Bologna, were he gained a MA in 2017 with a one-year fieldwork and thesis on The Transmission of Knowledge and Pottery Art Significance in the workshop of Umemura Seihou, in Akatsu, Aichi, Japan. He recently completed a PhD in Anthropology at Xiamen University, China, with a dissertation on Tenmoku pottery revival in North Fujian and its significance for the history and consumption of tea. His main method is the study of the Chaine Operatoire within Marxist Anthropology and the Anthropology of Technical Systems, whose principal advocates are Marcel Mauss, Leroi-Gourhan, Maurice Godelier, Pierre Lemonnier and others. He conducted research recently in Nixi, Zhongdian, Yunnan, in a traditional black pottery workshop where primitive methods are still continued and Cambodia, where Giacomo held a position in 2022-2023 as a lecturer in Anthropology at the Royal University of Law and Economics and Pannasastra University of Cambodia.
