Microsoft Sharepoint: An Effective Collaboration Platform for Institutional Knowledge Management

Innovation being the primary key in this knowledge society is enabled through knowledge, and hence, managing this knowledge efficiently becomes imperative for any organisation. Nonaka and Takeuchi (1991) emphasised the importance of knowledge management in one of their statement, "In an economy where the only certainty is uncertainty, the one sure source of lasting competitive advantage is knowledge. Successful companies are those that consistently create new knowledge, disseminate it widely throughout the organisation, and quickly embody it in new technologies and products". Keeping the importance of the role of knowledge in the organisational growth and productivity, many studies have been undertaken to understand the various aspects of knowledge, how to manage it effectively and efficiently, academicians and industry practioners have worked on knowledge management concept. Human resource is crucial for knowledge creation, be it explicit or tacit knowledge, it is the human resource that is responsible for knowledge creation activity. The technology infrastructure plays huge role as enabler and catalyses the knowledge creation and managing the knowledge for organisational growth. The technology is used for further knowledge management processes such as codification, categorization, dissemination, mode of access, archival, reuse, etc. It also creates a platform where in the knowledge workers feel at use in creating communities of practice, networking among others to create and share best practices. Organisations across all the industries have realised the importance of having a suitable technology platform and have deployed it to manage their organisational knowledge. Microsoft SharePoint is one such collaboration platform deployed for organisational knowledge management activities and our article tries to give an in depth understanding of various features of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007). The scope of this article, however, is not to carry out any comparison with any other proprietary or open source software solutions. Integration with other databases across the network, single sign-on, active directory (AD) enabled access, role-based access to information, etc are some of the features that enable organisations to use MOSS 2007 for their institutional knowledge management (IKM) activities. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (KM): Before understanding the concept of "Knowledge Management" it is essential for us to know what "Knowledge" is. It was Aristotle who had created distinction between "know-what" and "know-how". Resumen: Los repositorios institucionales constituyen una estrategia de promoción de la producció... more Resumen: Los repositorios institucionales constituyen una estrategia de promoción de la producción científica y de los recursos educativos abiertos en las universidades. Componen un servicio que facilita la innovación educativa, pero también generan una gran preocupación en cuanto a la falta de respeto por los derechos de autor. El presente trabajo analiza la información sobre la política de acceso libre y antiplagio, obtenida en los repositorios existentes (62 repositorios) de todas las universidades españolas (75 universidades) que disponen de este servicio, y en una muestra estratificada de 20 bibliotecas de las Facultades de Educación en España (38,5%). Con un enfoque metodológico mixto, se utilizaron tres instrumentos para la recogida de información diferentes: cuestionario de análisis de los repositorios, cuestionario de análisis de las páginas web de las bibliotecas y entrevistas en profundidad a los responsables de estos servicios. Los resultados obtenidos permiten conocer el tipo de información existente en los repositorios, la política institucional de acceso libre a la producción científica, así como, la forma en que se informa, actúa y previene el plagio en ellos. Se concluye que en los repositorios universitarios hay un alto desarrollo sobre el acceso libre a la información, pero no sobre el plagio, en cambio, en las bibliotecas se informa algo más sobre herramientas antiplagio y se ofrecen iniciativas formativas.

The development of Internet has revolutionized the businesses across the globe by streamlining th... more The development of Internet has revolutionized the businesses across the globe by streamlining their supply chain, thereby achieving substantial cost reduction. The concept of "agile & l ean manufacturing", which brought in radical changes in manufacturing systems all over the world has its bearing on the development of open standards and efficient networking across the corporate houses. In this paper, we look how the learnings from manufacturing sector could be translated into the "information industry", so as to develop libraries for the next millennium. We develop the supply chain of information, extending right from the point of origin to the point of use, thereby identifying the non-value adding delays in the process. The model is illustrated, without loss of generality, through the example of a journal publication. The paper brings out a decision model for effective deployment of technology for minimising these delays. The various stumbling blocks in this re-engineering exercise along with possible ways of elimination are also discussed. The pro-active libraries, constrained by resource limitation, can achieve quantum jumps in development, if technology is judiciously deployed to eliminate the delays in the supply chain. The main objective of this work is to develop a working strategy for developing "agile" libraries that are quick and flexible, to respond to the changing needs of the end user. The paper also details the policy measures required for the effective implementation of the supply chain model.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate and visualize the published documents about coronavirus research, based on extracted data from Web of Science (WoS) citation database. The study used a bibliometric method and social network analysis. Data were collected using the WoS database on February 23, 2020, with 13252 records being retrieved and used as the study sample. Descriptive statistics were used in the bibliometric method and network analysis. Text Statistics Analyzer and ISI.exe were used to compute the number of authors per document. VOSviewer and UCINET were used respectively for visualization and for measuring the centrality and the density of networks.
