He nods to her, then glances back at Pike. “Excuse me. I’m going to go and freeze my butt off in a tent.” "Remember to turn your survival-pack on!” Pike calls after him. Ishmar waves a hand in a dismissive motion as he walks away, and Pike shakes his head. “If I lose another cadet to hypothermia, I’ll never live it down.” He catches sight of Nyota’s expression. “Kidding. I’m kidding!” She gives him a smile, and watches the campsite for a moment. They lapse into an easy silence, and she finally works up the courage to ask what she came here to ask. “What did you say to Jim? The last time I saw him he didn’t seem enthusiastic about Starfleet.” Pike studies her for a moment. “I just encouraged him to use a little imagination. He could go far in Starfleet.“ He nudges her lightly. "You could go far, too.” “I’m already enlisted, Captain. There’s no need to recruit me.” His mouth twitches. “You know what I mean.”
