This study examines the learning needs analysis of Qur'anic education, focusing on teaching methods and
evaluation processes. The research emphasizes the importance of systematic analysis in identifying gaps between
students' current abilities and expected competencies in Qur'anic learning. Through literature review and
theoretical analysis, this study explores various teaching methods, including Baghdadiyah, Iqra, Ummi, Qiroati,
and Tilawati, evaluating their effectiveness in achieving learning objectives. The findings indicate that successful
Qur'anic education requires a comprehensive approach incorporating proper needs assessment, appropriate
teaching methods, and systematic evaluation procedures. This research contributes to the development of more
effective Qur'anic teaching strategies and evaluation systems in Islamic educational institutions.

This article discusses the figure of an Islamic thinker who seeks to
ground the Qur'an as a holy book that is able to solve the problems of
reality. Farid Esack is a contemporary Muslim scholar from South
Africa. Esack is known for his progressive and contextual hermeneutic
approach in the study of the Qur’an. His spirit of struggle was inspired
by the spirit of the struggle of the Prophet Muhammad SAW against all
forms of realism, tyranny, injustice and capitalism of the Quraysh
people documented in the Qur’an. Esack’s approach provides a new
perspective in the study of the Qur'an and opens up opportunities for
more dynamic and responsive interpretations to global issues.
Keywords: Hermeneutics of the Qur’an, Farid Esack, Contemporary Islamic Thought.

The location and subject of the research are conducted to ensure the relevance and representativeness of the obtained data. The research design is tailored to address research questions accurately, including experimental, correlational, or descriptive designs. The types of research methods, whether quantitative, qualitative, or mixed, are adjusted to the research objectives and the characteristics of the required data. Research procedures involve systematic steps from planning to conducting the research to ensure the validity and reliability of the results. Operational definitions are necessary to explain the concepts to be measured specifically and observable. Research instruments, such as questionnaires or interview guides, are developed to collect accurate and relevant data. Data collection techniques involve various methods, including observation, interviews, and surveys, to obtain comprehensive data. Data analysis techniques are used to process and analyze the collected data, aiming to test hypotheses and draw conclusions. The research findings indicate that, through this structured and comprehensive methodological approach, religious social research can yield deep and valid insights into the dynamics of religion in society.
