In the 1980s, the task-based appearance as the implementation of the constructivist theory and a... more In the 1980s, the task-based appearance as the implementation of the constructivist theory and application of communicative language teaching (CLT) methodology has significantly affected language learning in terms of teaching strategy, developing syllabus and/or curriculum. The task-based view of language teaching is widely influenced by constructivist theory of learning and communicative language teaching methodology (Jeon and Hahn, 2000). The constructivist theory main concept is that people construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. The constructivist perspective on the nature of learning reflects how people make sense of their experience (Taber: 2011). Alzahrani & Woollard (2013) state that this theory focuses on the belief that solving problem helps individuals in thinking, learning, and development. Constructivism proposes that learner conceptions of knowledge are derived from a meaning-making search in which learners engage in a process of constructing individual interpretations of their experiences (Applefield, Huber & Moallem, 2017). Thus, in constructivism theory of learning, it's very clear that experience is the most influenced factor in determining the success of learning. Richards and Rodgers (2001) state that British applied linguists saw the need to focus in language teaching on communicative proficiency rather than mastery of structure (structuralism view). The work of applied linguist has developed the communicative language teaching theory and application to language learning. As supported by Larsen-Freeman (2000), Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) aims to apply the theoretical perspective of the communicative approach by focusing on the communicative competence as the goal of language learning. According to Berns in Sreehari (2012), in CLT, language teaching is based on a view of language as communication, in which the speaker uses the language for some purposes orally or literally.

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada atau tidak ada perbedaan yang signi... more Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada atau tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kompetensi menulis antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi blended learning dan mereka yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi konvensional. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja dan penentuan sampel penelitian menggunakan teknik Cluster Random Sampling. Kelas VIII A8 terpilih sebagai kelas ekperimen dimana strategi blended learning digunakan dan kelas VIII A7 terpilih sebagai kelas kontrol dimana strategi konvensional digunakan. Hasil analis data menunjukan siswa di kelas ekperimen medapatkan hasil yang lebih baik daripada siswa di kelas control. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh hasil statistik deskriptif yang menunjukkan nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen adalah 84.75 sedangkan nilai rata-rata dari kelompok kontrol adalah 76.75. Slain itu, hasil dari uji t-test juga menunjukkan bahwa nilai t ob lebih besar dari t cv tersebut. Nilai t ob =-6.379 sedangkan nilai T cv adalah 1.6736 (α = 0,5). Ini berarti bahwa terdapat perbedaan kompetensi menulis yang signifikan antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi blended learning dan mereka yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan strategi konvensional.

As a nation of immigrants, bilingualism has always been one of the characteristics of the United States. Constant waves of immigration have caused the U.S. government to adjust its education policies in order to address the needs of different types of students. It was noted that bilingual education phenomenon firstly occurred in 1550. After that, bilingual schools were built in order to accommodate the non-native English immigrants. One marked as the rise of bilingualism after its restriction due to World War 1, was in 1968 in which well-known as Bilingual Education Act. There were much debates and amendments of the BEA. In 2002, the act was renamed to NCLB (No Child-Left Behind).

Creating an active classroom environment is a challenging task for teachers. Teachers tend to use... more Creating an active classroom environment is a challenging task for teachers. Teachers tend to use traditional teaching paradigm and dominate the learning process. This study aimed at applying a modern teaching environment which put the students as the central of learning process. Using Blended Learning with Schoology platform, this study aimed at investigating whether or not there was significant difference in writing competency between students who learnt in Blended Learning environment and those who learnt in conventional environment. The study was conducted in Singaraja, Bali. The sample were selected with cluster random sampling technique and 2 classes were determined as the experimental and the control group consisted of 54 students with 27 students for each group. By conducting post-test only control group design, the t-test result showed significant value at .046 which means there was a significant difference between the experimental and the control groups. A further effect size test (Cohen's d) showed the significant difference between group is in the medium level (0.55). In terms of writing, those who learnt with Blended Learning had a very critical argument compared to those who learnt in conventional environment. The use of Blended Learning created a very active classroom in which students are engaged in learning activities and they also learnt to develop their problem-solving skill. Observing other potential variables such as teachers’ technique, students’ input and conducting blended learning on larger sample, techniques and different skill are encouraged.

independent learners. In addition, the use of technology in learning process is expected to be applied in the
teaching and learning process. This study intended at developing a computer-based game as a learning
media to learn English vocabulary for young learners. This study was conducted in Singaraja by using
several steps and instruments. Based on the result, it was found that the students needed an interactive
learning environment that leads to vocabulary enrichment, but the teacher cannot provide it due to the
teacher’s lack of experience and knowledge in developing an interactive learning media. Therefore,
developing an interactive learning media was suggested to solve the problem, especially in enriching
vocabulary for young learners. Thus, this study was proofed to be important to be conducted until the
product was made, and then it can be applied in the classroom.

Huge vailable free sources on internet give the probability that sources are abusively used. This study intended to find out the students’ perception on plagiarism. EFL students in Singaraja, Bali were purposively selected as the participants of the study. The students were interviewed regarding how they perceive plagiarism. The interview covered questions on
students’ knowledge on plagiarism, experience in plagiarism and expectation for the university regarding plagiarism issue. In term of knowledge, the students understood plagiarism as to copy-paste. They claimed never caught doing plagiarism even they had done plagiarism. They also expected the teacher and university to have a clear instruction on what to do and what to avoid. Conducting study on larger sample by implementing questionnaire are encouraged.
