The complete design steps for the suggested household loads are carried out. Site radiation data and the electrical load data of a typical household in the considered site are taken into account during the design steps. The reliability of the system is quantified by the loss of load probability. A computer program is developed to simulate the PV system behavior and to numerically find an optimal combination of PV array and battery bank for the design of stand-alone photovoltaic systems in terms of reliability and costs. The program calculates life cycle cost and annualized unit electrical cost. Simulations results showed that a value of loss of load probability LLP can be met by several combinations of PV array and battery storage. The method developed here uniquely determines the optimum configuration that meets the load demand with the minimum cost. The difference between the costs of these combinations is very large. The optimal unit electrical cost of 1 kWh for LLP = 0.049 is $0.293; while for LLP 0.0027 it is $0.402. The results of the study encouraged the use of the PV systems to electrify the remote sites in Jordan.

Here, both DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) and TOPSIS (Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution) models are combined and extended to handle fuzzy evaluations where the first is used to set the weights of the interdependent criteria and the second for drawing a decision from a group of professionals who use linguistic ratings in their evaluation. The presented model is characterized by the capability to estimate the criteria weights when the criteria are interrelated. The strict determination of the criteria weights prior to the assessment process is eliminated as they are computed by the DEMATEL part. A classical case-study of optimal sore throat treatment in primary care unit is used to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed model.

The proposed control scheme aims to improve driver's comfort while keeping him/her safe by avoiding possible collisions. Depending on inputs from both the driver and the installed sensors, the controller accelerates/decelerates the vehicle to keep its speed at the desired limit. In case of a possible collision, the controller decelerates (accelerates) the vehicle to prevent possible crash with the vehicle ahead (behind). Moreover, the controller issues visual and/or audio alerts for the driver in order to warn him/her in case of the need for applying an uncomfortable deceleration level and/or to warn the driver for risky situations where he/she might need to change the lane. Simulation results illustrate the robustness of the proposed system over various ranges of inputs.

Axisymmetric viscous, two-dimensional steady and incompressible fluid flow past a solid sphere wi... more Axisymmetric viscous, two-dimensional steady and incompressible fluid flow past a solid sphere with porous shell at moderate Reynolds numbers is investigated numerically. There are two dimensionless parameters that govern the flow in this study: the Reynolds number based on the free stream fluid velocity and the diameter of the solid core, and the ratio of the porous shell thickness to the square root of its permeability. The flow in the free fluid region outside the shell is governed by the Navier-Stokes equation. The flow within the porous annulus region of the shell is governed by a Darcy model. Using a commercially available computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package, drag coefficient and separation angle have been computed for flow past a solid sphere with a porous shell for Reynolds numbers of 50, 100, and 200, and for porous parameter in the range of 0.025-2.5. In all simulation cases, the ratio of b/a was fixed at 1.5; i.e., the ratio of outer shell radius to the inner core radius. A parametric equation relating the drag coefficient and separation point with the Reynolds number and porosity parameter were obtained by multiple linear regression. In the limit of very high permeability, the computed drag coefficient as well as the separation angle approaches that for a solid sphere of radius a, as expected. In the limit of very low permeability, the computed total drag coefficient approaches that for a solid sphere of radius b, as expected. The simulation results are presented in terms of viscous drag coefficient, separation angles and total drag coefficient. It was found that the total drag coefficient around the solid sphere as well as the separation angle are strongly governed by the porous shell permeability as well as the Reynolds number. The separation point shifts toward the rear stagnation point as the shell permeability is increased. Separation angle and drag coefficient for the special case of a solid sphere of radius r = a was found to be in good agreement with previous experimental results and with the standard drag curve.

In this research we study the type one invariants for n-component links in the solid torus by generalizing Aicardi's invariant for knots in the solid torus to n-component links in the solid torus. We show that the generalized Aicardi's invariant is the universal type one invariant, and we show that the generalized Aicardi's invariant restricted to n-component links in the solid torus with zero winding number for each component is equal to an invariant we define using the universal cover of the solid torus. We also define and study a geometric invariant for n-component links in the solid torus. We give a lower bound on this invariant using the type one invariants, which are easy to calculate, which helps in computing this geometric invariant, which is usually hard to calculate.

In this paper we view the invariant of Hoste and Przytycki as an invariant for knots and links in the solid torus, and we give a state sum formula for this invariant. Then we define Jones's polynomial for links in the handlebody. In particular, we give formulas for the Jones's polynomial for knots and links in the handlebody with two handles. Moreover, we give a state sum formula for this invariant.

Tactics of agile manufacturing are mapped into different production areas (eight-construct latent): manufacturing equipment and technology, processes technology and know-how, quality and productivity improvement, production planning and control, shop floor management, product design and development, supplier relationship management, and customer relationship management. The implementation level of agile manufacturing tactics is investigated in each area. A structural equation model is proposed. Hypotheses are formulated. Feedback from 456 firms is collected using five-point-Likert-scale questionnaire. Statistical analysis is carried out using IBM SPSS and AMOS. Multicollinearity, content validity, consistency, construct validity, ANOVA analysis, and relationships between agile components are tested. The results of this study prove that the agile manufacturing tactics have positive effect on the overall agility level. This conclusion can be used by manufacturing firms to manage challenges when trying to be agile.

This cutting process is found in many industrial applications such as sheet metal processes, home-textile, garment, wood, leather and paper industries. An approach is proposed to solve this problem, which depends on the concept of the difference between the area of a collection of polygons and the area of their convex hull. The polygon assignment inside the stock is subjected to feasibility tests to avoid overlapping, namely, angle test, bound test, point inclusion and polygon intersection test. An iterative scheme is used to generate different polygon placements while optimizing the objective function. Computer software is developed to solve and optimize the problem under consideration. Few examples are conducted for different combinations of convex, non-convex items and stocks. Well-known benchmark problems from the literature are tested and compared with our approach. The results of our algorithm have an interesting computational time and can compete with the results of previous work in some particular problems. The computational performance of the developed software indicates the efficiency of the algorithm for solving 2-D irregular cutting of non-convex polygons out of non-convex stock. (K. The proposed approach evaluates the current situation based on installed sensors and consequently provides the proper action(s) to keep the indoor environment safe and comfortable for living. Inputs for the fuzzy controller include measurements from temperature and humidity sensors to boost comfort, and that from toxic odors sensors to enhance safety. Controller's outputs include signals to the air conditioning unit (AC), ventilation system, and humidifier/de-humidifier, in addition to visual/audio warning alerts in case of dangerous situations. To validate the usability of the controller, various combinations of buildups of heat, humidity, and odors are investigated. Results obtained from the simulation studies illustrate the robustness of the proposed controller at the different input scenarios.
