The survey for wintering birds was carried out on 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, whilst the birds in the nesting period will be detected in the four-year period 2023-2026. The study area (21 km2) was subdivided in 84 units (500x500m), based on UTM cartographic system. 65 wintering species and 66 species in the nesting period were detected; for 17 species the nesting was confirmed. In addition to the work conducted directly by the authors, results of episodic censuses and supplementary data were made available by two occasional surveyors. 86 specie were overall detected, 45 of which both in spring and winter.

The occurrence of this species was first recorded in Algeria, Turkey, Curaçao, Colombia, and Vanuatu, as well as the island of Crete and the archipelago of Tremiti Islands. Moreover, an additional 27 regions across several countries and 11 new islands have been identified as locations where the species occurs.

First occurrences of L. tredecimguttatus from Basilicata and S. paykulliana from Veneto, Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, and Basilicata are given. In addition, many records for new provinces are cited for both the species, improving considerably the knowledge of the distribution of these two spiders in Italy.

The occurrence of this species is first recorded for the Principality of Andorra and the districts of Beja, Braga and Viana do Castelo, in Portugal, and the provinces of Cáceres, Cáceres, Cádiz, Córdoba, Gipuzkoa, La Rioja, Málaga and Ourense, in Spain. Moreover, a species of the subgenus Hensenia Pagliano & Scaramozzino, 1990 is reported for the first time for the Portuguese districts of Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém and Vila Real, the Spanish provinces of Albacete and Guadalajara and the archipelago of the Canary Islands. Almost certainly also these latter records are to be attributed to S. curvatum, but the avalaible photos do not allow a certain identification respect to the similar Sceliphron deforme (Smith, 1856), found in Eastern Europe, but currently not in the Iberian Peninsula.

The dissection of the male terminalia, besides avoiding the limits of definitive preparations, which prevent a complete comparison of the type material, allowed a complete understanding and comparison of these three-dimensional structures. This new method, which does not necessarily exclude the previous approach, allowed the authors to identify and describe three new species in Italy: from Tuscany (Embia specolensis sp. nov.), Ventotene Island (Embia pandateriensis sp. nov.), and Calabria (Embia brutia sp. nov.). Moreover, this charts a new path in the study of these interesting insects, which have so far been largely neglected. In addition to several new records resulting from the revision of some collections, this contribution provides an updated checklist and a provisional key for the Italian Embioptera.

It is proposed that the stem of the generic name Stygne Handlirsch, 1906 be emended to Stygne- to give Stygneidae, while leaving the harvestmen family-group name Stygnidae, which is based on the genus Stygnus Perty, 1833, unaltered.

Also another alien mantis is quoted for Tuscany: it is H. patellifera Serville, 1839. For this species the record near Pistoia is the first with precise locality for the region.

The history of the only record so far available in the literature is also briefly reconstructed, adding the probable year of collecting, after correction of the collector’s name.

All literature records of its distribution outside its native range are summarized and many new records are provided, showing the quick spreading of this species. The countries and the islands in which Sceliphron caementarium occurs are summarized and ordered chronologically according to the date of the first record. The occurrence of the species is first recorded for Argentina, Oman, mainland Spain, the small country of San Marino and the archipelagos of Azores, Canary Islands, and Cayman Islands. Moreover, overall 56 new regions in several countries and 14 new islands are added to those from which the species was previously known. In Russia, the first record of the species is backdated to 2019.

In addition to the confirmed occurrence of Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), the presence of Western Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) and Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is reported for
the first time. The nesting of Western Cattle Egret in the Arezzo province is given for the first time.
Moreover, another new nesting site is reported in locality Ponte Caliano (Arezzo), where a pair of Grey Heron was observed during the incubation. However, in the latter case the nest was abandoned before the hatchling.

This gregarious behaviour is likely associated with a large swarming of chironomids, which are usual prey of this species. The record of T. nitens herein reported is the first one for continental Tuscany.
